Canon 1.4x EF Extender III (Teleconverter) USA
The Canon 1.4x EF Extender III is designed for Canon L-series telephoto lenses. The extender is perfect for photojournalists, nature and sports photographers who need to get close to distant and challenging subjects. The 1.4x EF Extender III increases the focal length of a lens by a factor of 1.4x while still delivering superb image quality. To ensure the best possible image quality in all shooting conditions, it also combines enhanced environmental protection, redesigned optics and improved data communication between lens and camera.
The extender allows professional photographers to shoot distant subjects without having to carry a number of heavy lenses. The 1.4x EF Extender III features three groups of seven elements, ensuring improved optical performance. All optical elements use Canon's Super Spectra coating, reducing ghosting and flare to minimize post-processing requirements. A new Fluorine Coating on the front and rear elements makes marks, such as spots left by water or fingerprints, much easier to clean than standard coatings.
To facilitate the accurate transfer of imaging data between the lens and camera body, the extender features an integrated processor which ensures all focusing, metering and ID information is available - allowing the photographer to capture crisp, well-exposed images. When combined with the latest range of premium Canon L-series lenses, these extenders enable higher AF accuracy, ensuring perfectly sharp shots, even when capturing moving subjects.
A carefully positioned lens release mechanism also makes it easy to mount the extenders quickly, reducing the time that the camera and lens are exposed to the environment. The extenders offer the exceptional build-quality expected from Canon's professional products, and are resistant to both dust and water, allowing photographers to use them in extreme shooting conditions.

The 1.4 ExtenderIII is 20 to 25% sharper than the extender II. I have done a lens test between both the extender II and the III and found this to be the case. Also there is no ghosting, and image quality on the edges is also very sharp. The extender also has better weather seal than the extenderII. I would say that this item is a must have. Also I have done a test with the 2X and found a 15 to 20% increse in image quality also. This extender is a great match for the 70mm to 200mm f2.8 and the 100mm to 400mm if used with a mark IIIor IV because the 100 to 400 becomes f8 with this extender and only the mark III and MarkIV will auto focus at f8. Another lens that this extender should be paired with, is the 500mm f4, this works great with the extender and the lens focuses fast and image quality is very sharp. Note: for wildlife work this is a must have item.

I was really surprised at how well this teleconverter works with my EF 70-200mm IS II lens. Viewfinder clarity and picture quality is excellent. I used teleconverters in my film days and found the results compromising. I do not feel like I am compromising when using this on my 70-200mm lens.

I am a hobbyists outdoor photographer and I use this teleconverter on the Canon 300mm f/4. The results were great. The focus was just as accurate with the teleconverter as without. I would recommend this one over 2X to keep the sharp focus.

Needed a little extra reach on my 70-200 2.8L while I'm saving for the new 300 2.8L II. This little guy did the trick. No noticeable change in focusing speeds, great image quality. What else do you need? I haven't blown anything up to 100% and pixel peeped the corners but then I don't feel the need as sharp corners do not necessarily make a great photograph. Too many people get hung up on that when most of the iconic images of the last century were made before autofocus, sophisticated metering and the exotic glass we have now. It's about the subject and the moment. Should work a treat on the 300. Usual wonderful service from B&H. If you're thinking about it, you should get it.

I use this with my Canon 7D and a 70-200mm F/2.8L IS 1. Seems to work great so far. Small size is handy, and it comes with a nice little bag. The great thing is you can use it on a number of lenses so I looked at as a long term investment. I haven't used it a lot yet, but so far no problems. I can put it on and take it off easily. I shot some photographs of a Red-tailed hawk with it a few days ago, and they turned out OK. The shots were not very sharp but I'm not sure if that's because I was shooting a fast moving subject, or because of the extender.

Definitely a great addition to the bag. I had bought this for my EF100-400, specifically for an upcoming whale watch, but have found it's really great for the EF70-200 f4 that's been hanging around doing nothing lately. Beauty of that lens is its great optics and lightweight. The Extender adds very little additional weight. So now, with the 1.4x Extender the lens has even better range and very little impact on image quality (barely noticeable). Auto-focussing speed doesn't seem to be impacted. So all in all, very happy with this. Looking forward to using it on the 100-400 as well.

I bought this mostly for using with my 70-200 2.8L IS, since I wanted to get a telephoto prime (400mm 5.6L). I have found the results to be pretty good when mated with the 70-200 - Usually gives just enough reach; still allows f/4; and produce fairly sharp images (however, not nearly as sharp as the 70-200 without it). But that's just another trade-off that you know about before purchasing if you do your research.
I have used it on my 400mm 5.6L and it produced ok results - likely due to being far away from the subject and my possibly being slightly off on the required manual focusing at f/8.
I also ran into someone with a 5D II using a 600mm f/4L and we traded off using the lens since she wanted to mount it on my tripod. So that worked out great. I used my 7D; the 600mm; and the 1.4x and got some usable shots of some mountain goats around Glacier NP.
I have also used it with extension tubes so that I can focus closer to subjects and get great results.
Overall I am happy with it. I think, however, that I will get rid of my 400mm 5.6L and get the 100-400mm so that I do not have to have the extender on the 70-200. Then I'll just use the 1.4x as needed. I also wish it was "compatible" with more lenses. You can literally put it in your pocket and go.

I am currently using the 1.4 EF Extender III with an EF 500 f/4 IS for bird and wildlife photography and I have to say that this is a much needed accessory for this type of work. No visible loss of detail noticeable with the human eye. Photos are much sharper than trying to crop an image taken without it. The additional focal length does make hand holding your rig a bit more challenging, but that's how I do it. No tripod. Highly recommended to anyone looking for additional reach, without having to spend thousands. It's compact and light, which is nice for hiking and traveling. Some make comments about price verses size, but I look at it this way...If it increases my ability to capture a shot that I would otherwise miss, what value do you put on that? Clean/simple/robust design means you will not have problems with this piece of equipment. Very happy with this one!!

Mainly use it with my 300 2.8 for sports. There is a difference in contrast
and sharpness between the extender 11 and 111. I find that when looking
at the images there really is only a slight difference in IQ with and without
the extender 111 and the added reach is worth it. I find that the auto focus is slightly faster than the extender 11 I like the overall quality of the Canon extenders compared to the third party examples so its worth the extra money for me.
