The Zoom X5 ADSL 2+ Modem, 4-Port Ethernet Router and Switch is a versatile affordable piece of hardware that's great for use within a network and for distributing Internet access to your Ethernet-enabled devices. With the built-in phone jack, the X5 can function as a modem in connecting to your ADSL line. While it is compatible with older ADSL standards, it's also compatible with ADSL 2 and ADSL 2+ standards. The latter standard boasts download speeds of up to 24 Mbps. Beyond use as an ADSL modem, the X5 features four built-in 10/100 Ethernet ports that allow you to use it as a router or network Ethernet switch. With those Ethernet ports, you can directly connect computers, other Ethernet switches, wireless access points, and HomePlug adapters, for example. If you do use the X5 as a router, it features a straightforward graphic user interface for easily configuring your router's settings. In total, you can connect up to 253 computers or other devices if you use the X5 within a network. As a router, this device includes the following security features: SPI/NAT firewall, Denial of Service attack protection, IP and Port filtering, password protected system management, and much more.
