Canon's XF105 HD Professional Camcorder is an amazingly compact, fully featured pro video camera that imports nearly all the features and functionality of the 3-chip XF305 into a smaller, single sensor form factor. Taking advantage of the latest HD technology--along with Canon's robust MPEG-2 4:2:2 codec--the XF105 records full HD video to affordable Compact Flash cards, making it as versatile as it is powerful. A newly developed Genuine Canon 10x HD video lens resolves images onto a native 1920 x 1080 CMOS sensor, which are captured in industry-standard MXF file wrappers using your choice of bit rate (up to 50Mbps), resolution, and frame rate. Full image customization and HDMI/Component/Composite outputs are equally on par with the camera's big brother XF305.
But not content with simple "junior partner" status, the XF105 brings some of its own muscle to the table in the form of infrared recording and--when used in combination with another XF105 or XF100--3-D stereoscopic capability. This fusion of exceptional image quality with portability and pinpoint control makes the XF105 the perfect low-profile tool for a range of applications, including ENG, travel documentaries, indie features, and event videography. The camera also includes HD/SD-SDI output, genlock, and SMPTE time code terminals, widening its range of uses to live and multi-camera productions.

Comments about Canon XF105 HD Professional Camcorder:
I first got the XF100, but then I needed the SDI out and Time Code. So I got one of these and I love them both. Great clear video and people are just amazed about the quality (then they see the price tag and understand). Yes it is a good chunk of cash, but if you do video, then it is a fantastic camera. The only downside is the zoon range, but If you don't do wild life or sports (and I don't) then the XF100 or XF 105 will be great. I use these for news footage in Los Angeles and with the XF 105 I can hook right up to the news van via SDI and up-load my footage. The infrared feature is so useful in the news and entertainment news business. Have a great day....Dave from LA

I use two of these cameras as part of a research project on psychotherapy. One camera is placed to capture the client, the other is placed to capture the therapist. The camera's are synced together and they work flawlessly. I only wish that Apple was friendlier to MXF files.

Comments about Canon XF105 HD Professional Camcorder:
Handheld or on a tripod, this versatile camera really performs. I started out with a mini-dv Sony camera and moved to this when it became available and haven't looked back. Image stabilization is very good, especially for long shots; the sound quality, when using something like my Rode NTG-9, is great, the color faithful. Downside: as with any flash media camera, you have to start planning on buying a lot of drive space==so far, 3 x 1.5 TB to store and to edit video. Whereas a tape based camera=a bunch of tapes in a box! And the microphone holder is a bit flimsy. I wish the lens were a bit wider and had more of a tele range (but then, I could have spent another grand on the XF 300). I love it, basically, and once you figure out how to set up the parameters (don't fiddle with them once you do), it's just very fast to use.

Comments about Canon XF105 HD Professional Camcorder:
I use the XF100 while out and about, filming street festivals/performers and acting troupes. I also use the camera for video portfolios and "E-mercials". It really is a great camcorder for the traveler and for the business oriented filmographer.
The great thing about it is the easy panel for internal/external XLR output. Genius right there. The infrared works like a charm and comes in white and green, so go ahead and shoot that Quarantine spoof. It has hot-key buttons that allow me to pull up gridlines and adjust the white balance. The screen is super awesome and has very high resolution, making an external monitor simply an option. The speakers lack a bit, providing mediocre sound, but once accessorized with an external mic, the audio is spectacular and easy to manage with the aforementioned genius panel.
The auto focus is pretty accurate, but it will focus in on whatever is in the middle of the shot (the focus ring makes it a 100x easier to shoot precisely). The buttons on the top are a little small for bigger fingers, and also, when hooked up with accessories, the small camera takes a toll on your hand. The zoom is pretty weak, too. I can zoom well on objects 10ft or closer, but I have to move in if I want more in my frame.

Comments about Canon XF105 HD Professional Camcorder:
If you're used to and appreciate the functionality of a large camera you should be pleasantly surprised with the XF 105. Set up correctly you can have separate focus, iris and zoom controls available in nearly the same fashion as you would with a professional lens with servo drive. As for picture quality, I did a side by side comparison of the XF105 and a Sony 3 sensor camera and was very pleased with the results. Nice camera for the price.
