Things that are great about it:
A very durable product, for example a couple of weeks ago I spilled water on this ipod and I thought that's the end. After wiping off the excess liquid. I turned off the ipod and then I turned it on and it was still working fine.
To this day I haven't had ay problems. I also bought a case right before this mishap.
Overall in my opinion ipods are very durable. My first iPod was the 5.5 generation classic. Battery life on the classic is still awesome except for just a few scratches. Also the classic survived through 2 cases!Wow!
So in my opinion buy the ipod 64GB. It will last a long time, and you'll definitely have more storage for videos and pictures. I haven't used these features yet.

I considered an iPad 2 before deciding to buy a 4th generation iPod touch. Since I use it mostly for listening to music, sometimes for checking email and browsing the web, and occasionally for video chats, I though a iPod touch would be easier to carry around. The gadget is a beauty to behold, but I am disappointed to find that some apps do not change orientation when the iPod touch is rotated from portrait to landscape display; for example, the maps app does not rotate, which is a drag, especially because the on-screen keyboard is so small in portrait display, I have trouble entering search terms into the maps app.

This is a well built, rugged pocket computer, we gave this as a gift to our high school age son and he loves it. It's amazing all the things that you can do with this, if you're in a wifi area, you can check emails, go online, and even if you're not in a wifi area, you can listen to downloaded music and watch downloaded shows and movies.
I'm sure that if you're reading this, you already know all about the ipod, but let me add here that it rarely crashes or freezes, we've dropped them without there being any damage (although I've seen my fair share of cracked screens, so I know it's possible) and it's easy to just pick up and start using, no complicated buttons, no steep learning curve.
A word of warning: we have needed to set parameters on its use, because it consumes all of his free time. Very addictive, similar to the effects that the Xbox produces!
Only downside: we immediately replaced the earbuds that come with the ipod with ones that are better, the ones that come with the ipod don't fit well and they don't produce good sound, so look around for some other earbuds.

Couple this with OSX Lion on your Macs ( And I assume Everyone!! uses a Mac ) and FaceTime app, what more could you desire, Easier to hold than the iPad, Wife has one of those and it is a bear to hang onto and she is not a Mac Person. I bought the ipod touch to listen to music in the car during roadtrips. Now because of the ability to easily stream music to my receiver (or powered speakers) via airplay, I have found myself using it to listen to my music at home as well. If you have a music library that won't fit on the device you can still access your entire library from your computer using the remote app. The face time feature is getting a lot of use in our house as well.

I love the interface for playing music, much better than my ancient iPod 5th gen. Plus you get all the benefits of the game center, web browser, Facebook, app store, etc. My only complaint is the poor battery life compared to the iPod classic.
