The iPod nano from Apple is a digital media player with an extremely compact design and intuitive multi-touch screen. In addition to digital audio playback, the nano lets you look at photos, allows you to listen to FM radio, and offers compatibility with the Nike + iPod Sport Kit.
The most stunning feature of the nano is its size. Apple has dropped the venerable clickwheel from the design, allowing the player to be 46% smaller and 42% lighter than the previous generation design. Despite its small size, the player is able to provide up to 24 hours of nonstop music playback on a single charge. Player control is handled instead by a 1.5" color display with full support for multi-touch gestures.
You'll be able to swipe, drag, tap, and rotate your fingers across the display to control the player's functionality. If you're worried about dropping or misplacing the tiny player while out and about, have no fear -- an integrated clip allows you to wear the nano on your person. And, thanks to the screen rotation function, you can clip it in any orientation -- you'll always be able to adjust the screen to suit your needs.
The nano works with Apple's iTunes application -- available for Mac and Windows computer systems -- to manage your music and load it onto the device. iTunes allows you to convert the CDs you already own to digital audio files, and you'll also be able to purchase new music from the iTunes store. Once the music is loaded onto the nano, you'll be able to access it any which way you'd like -- via album, artist, song title, or playlists. In addition to the playlists you create in the iTunes software, the nano supports the Apple Genius feature -- simply activate Genius when you are listening to a song and the nano will create an on-the-fly playlist of 25 songs that complement it. It's perfect for those times when you'd like to create a mix of a certain kind of music, but don't want to take the time to craft a playlist yourself. And, if you have no idea what you want to listen to at all, just shake the player -- it will start shuffling your music.
Believe it or not, despite advances in digital music, satellite, and other space-age technologies, there are still a lot of radio stations out there broadcasting using good ol' fashioned FM technology. The iPod nano is able to tune in to your favorite FM station with ease. You'll even be able to pause an FM broadcast for up to 15 minutes.
The nano works with Nike's iPod Sports Kit, which is available separately. This system allows the player to communicate with select Nike running shoes, helping you to keep track of your workout and giving you real-time voice feedback on your exercises. Even if you don't have special shoes -- or shoes at all, for that matter -- you can use the nano as a pedometer to keep track of your steps.
The nano even features a number of functions that are intended to help users with disabilities enjoy the device. The VoiceOver function, which requires the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic to function, lets you control your music without looking at the screen -- it speaks the name of the song or artist via the earphones -- in any of 29 languages. Visually impaired users will also appreciate the ability to set the display to high contrast mode -- all text is displayed as white on a black background. Users who only have hearing in one ear will appreciate the ability to set the player to mono mode -- which routes all audio into both earbuds, eliminating the possibility of missing parts of a song due to stereo separation.

I use my iPod nano for running and working in the yard.
I also own a Generation 1 and 3 iPod nano. There is a lot to like about the Gen 6. The size...you have to see it to believe how small it is. It could not be any smaller and still be user friendly. Even though it is small, the touch screen is still very manageable and easy to use after you practice a bit. It seems that the 16GB is really 14.88GB, not sure how that rounds up to 16, but still a lot more than my Gen 3 holds. Love the built in clip. Since I run and often have stuff in my pockets, with the older nanos, I previously had to purchase a separate case with clip. With Gen 6, I could pop it out of the package and start using it. Love the built in FM radio. Easy to use and you can pause live music. Using the same iPod headphones from my Gen 3, it seems like the output on the Gen 6 is not quite as loud. I found myself turning it up to about 70% of max, with the volume regulator at max. I would normally not exceed 50% of volume on the Gen 1 or 3. The sound quality is good. Not sure how it would sound with any less efficient headphones.
Like with the Gen 1 & 3 iPods, powering off is not as simple as it should be. Unlike the previous iPods, you can not power off the Gen 6. You can only make it sleep, then after 36 hours of non-use, it turns off. You must pause the music and then hit the sleep button. The previous models, you just hold down the pause button for a few seconds. The only feature I dislike is to pause music, you must turn the screen on, then pause, then turn the screen off, which requires you to look down. Obviously not a major deal, but not as convenient as reaching down and pressing one button, without looking. The pros far outweight the cons. I recommend this product.

I thought the new iPod Nanos were so cute and tiny. The touch screen was really cool, but there are a few drawbacks. I always kept my old Nano in my clock radio docking station at work. The new Nano will not charge on the docking station. Also, there is no display when it is on the docking station, so you can't go in and select the songs you want to hear. I bought it because I needed more memory, but I really don't like it much.

Strong clip for workouts, small, light, ruggedly built. Easy to use, feature-rich including FM and a pedometer. There's nothing I don't like about my iPod Nano. I particularly like that I can listen to 1.5 or 2x speed on (voice) podcasts.

I use this product first to listen to music whilst exercising. I listen to both ripped songs and live radio. The radio pickup is great and the audio quality is like digital sound. The touch screen works flawlessly. The device is very easy to learn and operate. The quality of the colors on the screen is very impressive. I have not yet tried out the personal trainer as I am using a Garmin. I love the various options to use the ipod as a watch face. The only thing I do not like is that it is a little large for may hand to use as a wrist watch. I will purchase one of the bands and see if it helps. This is great for the serious exerciser, music listener etc. Get one, you will not be disappointed.

Use it on my 40 minute walk to and from work. I don't use earbud phones because they are uncomfortable and sound bad. Own a pair of Sennheiser HD595. Filled up all 14.8gigs with just over 2500 songs. Sometimes random isn't so random as I'll hear the same song within an hour...but w/e. Has turned itself off 4-5 times now after listening to it for a half hour. Just a minor inconvenience, glad it doesn't happen all the time.

As to be expected with Apple products, this nano is fantastically small, well built, and useful! With its 16GB memory, you will not need to pick and choose which music to download for jogging, everything you have will probably be there. I like the nice metal case, too.

I use this item all the time. When I am working out, running, playing basketball, esc. I love the size, controls and I also like the pedometer. Sometimes the ipod slips out of my hands because it's small, but good news is it's light enough it doesn't fall to the ground because the headphone jack keeps it from falling and hitting the ground.

Comments about Apple 16GB iPod nano (Blue, Current Model):
Purchased the new Nano for my 15 year old daughter. She had an Ipod touch and cracked the screen, but asked for a Nano to replace it. She likes its simplicity of design and small size, and the built in clip is great as she is a cross country runner. Have had it for a few weeks and no problems, even though I was expecting some with a brand new generation model.
