Targus Lap Chill Mat
The Targus Lap Chill Mat affords a functional, comfortable and ergonomic alternative to working with a laptop in your lap or on a soft surface. The chill mat does an incredible job at keeping my lap cool when working with my laptop. Not only does it keep me cool, but has been excellent at keeping my laptop's internal fans from kicking on, thus a huge reduction in ambient noise. There is a little whir from the fans when on, but very minor compared to the laptop's fans. Very easy to use as it simply plugs into a USB port and is immediately functioning. The neoprene that coats the stand has some cushion to it and works well at maintaining the cool temperature. The fans are protected inside the stand so it even works well on a soft surface like a blanket.

Pros: HP HDX-16t laptop fit perfectly on the chill mat. You can hear the fan, but it's not distracting. The USB cord is of exceptable length. Although I wished the fan was a little stronger, it did keep my laptop cool. Comfortable to use on my lap.
Cons: The left fan (there are two fans) died after only 4 weeks of use.

I've bought 2 of these. The first one's wiring got broken at the base and stopped working. I figured this was my fault because I tend to be hard on electronic appliances, so after looking around town for a different fan and not finding one, I bought another and took better care of it. A month or 2 later, I discovered it was no longer working, checking the wiring I found no tears. So after a good deal of effort I managed to remove the cover, and was very disappointed at what I saw. There are 4 screw holes holding each fan in place. Of these, 3 of them have no screws. 2 were missing on one fan, 1 on the other. Now, this is the first time I have ever even thought about opening one of these, so I assume that this was simply shoddily constructed. Going to try to get my money back if I can, and am certainly not buying another one of these.

I purchased the product as I was having a problem with my ASUS laptop overheating and shutting down. This occured under circumstances that the machine should easily handle. Local tech rep suggested a chill mat would probably resolve the problem. It did not. Just the same I think using such a procuct can be helpful for CPU life. It now seems the problem lies within the graphics card or drivers.

This was purchased to extend the life of our home laptop & it works great. Air output is MUCH less warm. Best of all - can't hear the fans at all - - this is so quiet! Love the grippy rubber inserts on the top - there is no slippage of the computer when placed on the stand. But if a person doesn't like 'em they just pop out! The fabric on bottom is nice, so won't damage our oak desk. One thing though, it's a little bulky, so we don't plan taking it when taking laptop to libarary, etc. Very pleased overall.

His only complaint is that he cannot put things on top of the laptop because it's on a slant. I love it, less clutter. I would recommend this to anyone who constantly uses their laptop on their lap.
