This is a great, though expensive, battery. I used to buy third-party batteries and use them without incident. But Panasonic is now "chipping" their batteries so only Panasonic-brand batteries work completely. I bought one in addition to the battery that came with my LX5, because I like to have a spare fully charged. I did buy a third-party battery prior to purchasing this one, and although the third-party battery does work, the camera's battery level indicator doesn't work when this battery is installed. Perhaps that's the only weirdness, but it makes me wonder if the battery might do damage to my camera with extended use. So ... the ~[$] I spent on the third-party battery is wasted. I only use OEM batteries in devices that require chipped batteries now.I took one star off for the high price. Otherwise, great battery with long life.

I had purchased a lower price battery as 2nd battery but it turned out totally useless. So this original was welcome.

I own 2 LX5's, which will be the main cameras to be used during a trip to Europe. Having a spare battery is very important to me. Having used 3rd party batteries in the past (disappointedly), the small extra expense is well worth it.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-BCJ13 Lithium-Ion Battery (3.6V, 1250 mAh):
Our family has three Lumix LX5 cameras that use the DMW-BCJ13 battery, and over the past year I have bought at least a half dozen batteries to serve as general backup to the ones supplied with the cameras. As many owners of this camera know, the battery is proprietary and the knockoffs are close to worthless: they don't display charge state in the camera and most don't have anywhere near the advertised capacity. For a while, there was a bottleneck in genuine Panasonic production and it was close to impossible to find this battery. Yes, you can buy a Chinese knockoff that looks and feels just like a genuine one for $10 or less. Some dealers show photos of the Panasonic battery and then send a knockoff, hoping you won't be knowledgeable enough to care. I'm happy to report that B&H ships the real thing made by Panasonic. The three batteries I bought here accurately report charge state in the camera and seem to last as long as the original. You'll pay several times the price for this battery as you would for some knockoffs, but I speak from experience in saying that you get what you pay for, and B&H is an honest dealer of this battery.

Having recently purchased the LX5 I wanted to have a spare battery. I've used generic batteries in the past but wanted the confidence of using an original part with this excellent camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-BCJ13 Lithium-Ion Battery (3.6V, 1250 mAh):
I find it important to have a backup battery for my camera. This is especially the case when shooting in RAW mode with the Lumix DMC-LX5. In such a case, the battery will not last a long intensive photo session. It is also important that the battery be an original Lumix one. The one I bought from B&H is an original Lumix one, and functions properly.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-BCJ13 Lithium-Ion Battery (3.6V, 1250 mAh):
This is a fast-cycle LiIon battery charger made specifically for a particular group of Lumix cameras, in order to protect certain features of both camera and battery. I am not thrilled with the price, but after trying a cheaper alternate that did not really even fit the batteries properly, I came back to the old reliable.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-BCJ13 Lithium-Ion Battery (3.6V, 1250 mAh):
Panasonic cameras require batteries to have a special chip embedded in the battery, so non-Panasonic batteries may not work properly. This is the correct battery for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 and works great! Don't take a chance on cheap imitators.
