The Western Digital 500GB WD Caviar Blue SATA 3.5" Hard Drive features ample storage, quiet operation and low power consumption. With a 500GB storage capacity, SATA interface and transfer speeds up to 3 Gb/s, it's ideal for demanding desktop applications that require high performance. The Caviar Blue benefits from ShockGuard technology that protects the drive mechanics from shocks. It also uses NoTouch, which prevents the recording heads from resting on the disk during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This results in a more reliable drive due to the limited head wear. The Caviar Blue is also tested rigorously to ensure compatibility with most systems.

Comments about Western Digital 500GB WD Caviar Blue SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:
The WD Caviar Blue is one of the best bargain Hard Drives on the market right now, and as of this writing, BHphotovideo has this beast for the best price. This hard drive runs at a lightning fast 7200rpms making boot times and data transfers very fast. If you are considering a hard drive for gaming, this is a great choice. While the capacity is a little bit small, it is a great value for what you are getting. The SATA port is very well built and gives you comfort in knowing that you are attached properly, in other words, it is easy to plug in, but not too loose to make you wonder if it is installed correctly. After I installed this on a brand new system, it had no problem being seen in the bios. If you are considering multiple partitions, I have found that the HD has no loss of speed bouncing between partitions. There really is nothing bad I can say about this unit, if you are considering a 500gb HDD, this is the one to get.

Comments about Western Digital 500GB WD Caviar Blue SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:
Recently purchased 1TB WD Blue SATA for my Desktop
and 500GB WB SATA to store my large RAW photo files. Both were immediately recognized by my BIOS, and formated easily. Did some research after my Seagate HD died and decided to switch brands. These offer optimum performance at reasonable price. Very happy with the purchase.

Got four of these for my NAS. Run pretty fast and are quiet. Wish I could bought the black models, but the blues are great.

Comments about Western Digital 500GB WD Caviar Blue SATA 3.5" Hard Drive:
I purchased this HDD to replace my failing Seagate HDD as my main drive. It instantly plugs in, boots, and writes with no issues. Shortly after installing this HDD, I drove 16 hours with it in an extremely hot car and had no issues booting it back up. It's a basic HDD - all you could ask for.
My issue is that it seems a tad slow on writes. Might be my aging computer, but it does seem slower than my original, despite being brand new.
