The B+W 39mm #8 Yellow (022) Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily for use with black and white film. This medium yellow filter slightly darkens skies, helps to cut through haze, and improves overall contrast. It is the most common contrast filter for black and white photography, producing an accurate tonal range and compensating for the blue sensitivity of panchromatic film. There is a 2x filter factor with this filter, requiring an increase of 1 stop for normal exposure.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Comments about B+W 39mm 022 Medium Yellow (8) Filter:
I have a Leica M3 with a 50/2 Summicron DR. Rather than use older Leitz filters, I chose to use the B+W filters because of their reputation for good glass and solid build.
I wasn't disappointed. They are built like a tank with a good brass ring. They screwed onto the E39 thread of my Summicron with ease and stayed put (don't over-tighten!). I didn't purchase the MRC product, but I'm happy with regular coating. The medium yellow filter is a fairly basic filter if you want to get into B&W photography as it renders the photograph more natural (sky blue skies don't end up white as clouds!).
All in all, good choice!

Comments about B+W 39mm 022 Medium Yellow (8) Filter:
B+W 39mm filters are the best to use with Voigtlander Bessa lenses. They are physically smaller than other brands, with smaller outside diameter & are thinner, front-to-back. This allows the factory-Bessa lens hoods to be screwed back on over them. They actually FIT!
