Seems like this is about the cheapest one you can get and still get decent quality. I had bought another one for $25 downtown, but it was virtually junk, terrible picture quality and I returned it - the only good thing about that one was that you could set it for any timed interval, whereas for this one you're limited to 15, 30, 45 second intervals, then minutes, etc. Got it for my mom (of course) and hope the parents are able to actually plug it in and use it. NIce picture quality, though it doesn't seem possible to vary the order of play; they will play in the order you load them. Okay for the parents' use. Quite easy to make it play; loading pics onto the SD card might be a bit involved for minimal PC users, but easy for most. (For Mac I had to drag pics into the SD card as it appears in the finder window.) You can choose the type of transition or just choose "close" so it just closes one picture and opens the next, rather than fancy effects, which are nice too. And it seems that you can set it to power up in the morning, then shut down at night. I set it for that but didn't get much more time to see it in action over days, as I had to send it off for xmas. Hope they like it. The siblings can add their pics when they visit, by using their PC to add to the card. Oh yeah, can also use a flash drive; I didn't try that.

I was looking for a simple frame which can show photos well. Although it does that, there're few major drawbacks...
Being able to display only JPGs, it doesn't support Progressive JPG format. Besides that an image is blurry for 1-2 seconds after it was shown and for 1 second before the next image. It looks like the frame is trying to do so processing even when I prepared pictures in 800x600 to fit its resolution. This is very noticeable on high-quality sharp pictures when 5 second delay is used. It works like this -- blurry image for 1 second, sharp for 3 seconds, blurry again for 1 second. This looks really bad.
My other complain is even though power supply supports 110/220 AC circuits, it's not mentioned anywhere online, even in PDF manual on the manufacturer website.

I have owned other similar products and this one is by far the easiest to use. It is very simple to upload photos and the menu is very user friendly. The picture on the frame is also great. I would highly recommend for the price.

Compared this digital photo frame with a few others of the same size. This frame is definitely the best bang for the buck. Great quality images, easy to use and affordable.

Comments about Aluratek ADPF08SF 8-Inch Digital Photo Frame:
While this product has great picture quality -- it misses the key feature of every other digital frame I've purchased from Kodak, Sony, HP, and Pandigital. It WON'T AUTOPLAY pictures. Turning it on manually or through the automatic power on feature only displays the menu. You have to manually press the play button. This is close to useless without that feature. When I contacted Aluratek for a fix I was told "The ADPF08SF will only turn ON but will not autoplay the slideshow since doing so will make the system crash." I was told it wouldn't be fixed and to buy the 512Mb model if I wanted autoplay. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until several months after purchasing 5 of these frames. [...]

Very nice basic digital photo frame. I wasn't expecting any bells and whistles for this money, and didn't get disappointed at all. I really love the "simplistic" frame design. Just black, straight frame. For me, right what I was hoping for. Perhaps one thing I wish it had, is the ability to randomize the displayed photos.

I bought that one as a birthday gift to my grandmother, which, by the way, have 87 years old. That was a hit! She loved and don´t stop asking for more and more family pictures.

I use this photo frame at my farmers market and trade show booth. People love to see photos of our ranch and lifestyle - the digital photo frame allows me to tell our story. I really like the higher resolution, but I wish I could get the photos to change faster than every 15 seconds.

If you use a USB thumb drive as memory, it tends to stick out beyond the frame and is visible from the front. An SD etc memory card is not visible, and so it may be a better choice, but that may mean you'll need a memory card reader/writer in order to load photos from a computer.

We use the product to give a life tribute DVD slideshow to our Cemetery and Funeral Home customers. these frames look expensive and highlight the photos not the frame. Our families love them.
The drawback is the instruction book is not clear on how to use the memory in the frame so I con't have to give away a thumb drive. Can you help me? The frame never gives me the option to move the photos to the internal memory.

slight correction to my previous review - just not to mislead - the intervals can actually also be set for 5 seconds, and I think also 10 seconds, plus the other intervals of 15, 30, etc. and then various lengths of several minutes, up to an hour, if I recall.
Whether using portrait photos or landscape arty shots, they all looked pretty good.

The product is super easy to use. It provides either USB or SDHC data transfer and storage for slideshow. It offers a variety of settings from how long you would like your photos to remain on screen to which transition effect you want between photos.
