The Vinten VB-AP2F Vision Blue System with Floor Spreader includes a Vision Blue Head, Two-Stage Aluminum Pozi-Loc Tripod, Soft Case, and offers professional support for lightweight camcorders and DSLRs equipped for video.

The Vinten Vision Blue Pan and Tilt Head incorporates a continuously variable counterbalancing system, LF drag assemblies for pan and tilt motions, and an adjustable camera mounting plate with a 1/4" screw and pin. Easy to access placement of pan and tilt brakes, drag controls, and counterbalance enables you to easily adjust camera settings.

Illuminated level bubble allows for head adjustment in locations with low lighting levels, and can provide 15 second illumination by pressing the pushbutton. The Vinten Perfect Balance technology enables load balance between 4.6-11 lb (2.1-5 kg) with a low center of gravity of around 2.2” (55 mm), and allows the Vision Blue Pan and Tilt Head to balance the smaller lightweight cameras.

Equipped with the Vinten lubricated friction (LF) technology, it provides smooth movement of the camera. In addition, the pan and tilt brakes are located on the left side of the Vision Blue Pan and Tilt Head, and enable each axis on the head to be locked at any selected position. The camera can be mounted on the head with the help of a slide plate attached to the camera, and then loaded from the back of the platform and fixed securely with a slide plate clamp.

The Two-Stage Pozi-Loc Tripod (3819-3) made of aluminum is light at 7 lb (3.2kg) and features a maximum load capacity of 55 lb (25 kg). Pozi-Loc leg clamps offer easy setup and the height of the tripod is adjustable from 16.4” (41.6 cm) to 61.5” (156.2cm).

For providing stability to the tripod on flat ground, the support system comes with the black Floor Spreader (3363-3). The flexible Spreader unit can be used on uneven terrain and hinged construction allows for easy folding with the tripod. Equipped with quick-release straps, the floor spreader can be easily installed and removed.

The Rounded Soft Case (3358-3) compatible with the Vision 3, 6, 8 & 11 heads with two-stage Pozi-Loc tripod protects the equipment during travel, and allows you to carry them safely.

I love Vinten tripods. Totally reliable and easy to use. The head is super fluid and the feel of it is quality. I own two Vision 3's and the Blue is a great addition!

Comments about Vinten VB-AP2F Camera Support System:

I was looking to replace my aging Miller 30 and went on a hunt for a decent tripod that would suit not only large cameras but also DSLR. I found this little gem and the price made me skeptical at first.

I had been mentally prepared to spend around $4K for a decent tripod. So when i saw this I thought I might as well try and and if it doesn't work i can probably sell for close to what I paid for it and then move on.

But I quite like the tripod. The smooth operation (especially compared to my old Miller) was amazing. The "Perfect Balance" is a neat trick... I can't tell you how many times I've seen professional shooters that turn their back only to find their camera either on the ground or pointing waaay up or down. With Perfect balance it just doesn't happen.

My only complaint was I did a fair amount of airline travel with this immediately after I received the tripod and the mid-level spreader broke. So I had to get a warranty replacement. So lesson learned: always travel with a hard shell case. The included soft case is quite nice and that's generally how I will transport the tripod.

All in all for the money it's a great tripod!

Comments about Vinten VB-AP2F Camera Support System:

Looking for an HDSLR tripod can be tricky. Many of the more economical choices do offer the fluidity or stability of ENG or Cinema heads and sticks. And to go to a higher-end model could be disproportionately expensive for the DSLR kit, not to mention overkill. The DSLR shooter has to navigate the awkward world that expects solid results with run-and-gun timing. After trying several Manfrotto models, some of which had respectable heads, I stumbled upon a review of the Vinten Vision Blue. It was compared to a Sachtler, which I found very favorable. The model extended higher than many in its class, and included a floor spreader, rather than a rickety mid-level spreader (which I hate). The head itself is wonderful, although the sliding base-plate is less ideal than a pop out baseplate. It offers numbered pan and tilt fluid adjustments, and a slightly mysterious "perfect balance" feature which is some kind of counter balance system.

The 75mm bowl seems to be becoming a standard, though a 100mm bowl would have been preferable, being featured on a wider variety of more professional equipment.

For the price, though, this is an excellent tripod/head kit, which I might expect to cost as much as twice as much as it did.
