The ER-20 ETY-Plugs Triple-Flange Earplugs (Standard, Clear/Blue) from Etymotic are a compact and inexpensive way to reduce sound levels around you, while still maintaining the ability to hear clearly. Ideal for use by musicians and those who work in loud environments such as parades, motor sports, and athletic events, these high-fidelity earplugs reduce sound by up to 20dB across all frequencies.
By reducing sound evenly, the earplugs reduce the risk of hearing damage, but also keep music and speech clear and natural, not muffled. The earplugs are configured to replicate the natural response of the ear canal so that sound comes through exactly as it should, only quieter.

I was talking to someone about concert being too loud and he told me the existence of these kind of earplugs. I did some research and found out ER-20 is the most popular type and felt that it didn't hurt to try. And I was very impressed.
I went to the same concert twice (Taylor Swift concert at San Jose and then at San Diego), once before I got the earplugs and once after. These earplugs made the music sound better and the concert experience more enjoyable. For one, with the earplugs I could actually enjoy the opening acts without thinking "omg this is too loud too loud too loud...". These earplugs don't reduce the clarity of the music. They just cut down the volume to a comfortable level, and this way, the music sounds better (and richer, in my opinion, since I actually caught more nuances and details of the songs than I did last time).
Some people say that prolonged use of these earplugs can make your ears hurt. I used these for the entire duration of the concert (3+ hours) and didn't feel uncomfortable when I was using them or after I took them out. There are 2 types of these, standard and large. If you are not sure, choose the standard type since according to the maker, most people use the standard type just fine. Also don't insert them too deep. For me I just connected them with the string, and then twisted them into my ears until I felt they were secured. I didn't really pulled my ears back before doing that, as what is stated in the manual.

I used these at a wedding I was shooting a couple of weeks ago. It helped somewhat, I could still feel the music pounding into my brain but I guess this helped knock down the frequencies a tad. Better to have them than not, but I would shop around a bit more before settling on these.

Comments about Etymotic Research ER-20 ETY-Plugs Triple-Flange Earplugs (Standard, Clear/Blue):
I've used these plugs for many years. They are the best that I have found, especially for the price. I go to many shows a year, one per week on average, and in my opinion, the sound levels are usaully too loud. These plugs allow me to stay at the the show and enjoy the music. The sound level reduction seems fairly even across the frequency spectrum. The effect is like turning the volume controll from 11 down to 8. Also I have found that I can adjust the sound level allowed in by adjusting how deep in the ear they are placed. And if you happen to loose one because you are having such a good time dancing or for what ever reason, replacements are not cost prohibitive. One caveatt, look in the ear hole of the plug periodically, like before use in good light, and make sure there is not a chunk of wax present, just a little peice can effect sound quality. I usually get about 10 to 15 shows out of a pair.

I work in events and having these are a must for me. I had the large ones before buying these and prefer those. Feel that the small ones go right inside my ear and protect a little less.

Didn't realize until I received them that they come in two sizes. Consider trying the large. The standard size I received feels a bit on the small side

The fit was very comfortable and are very easy to insert and remove. The reduction in dbs was just right and little to no quality of sound was lost.

I play drums in a rock band and these earplugs make it so I don't go deaf and can hear what's going on in the rest of the band without making things too muddy.

I've been to a lot of loud rock shows in my time. Now in my fifties, I can't afford to loose anymore hearing than I already have. Unlike standard earplugs these Etymotic's allow the music to still be heard. Just pull them slightly in and out of the ear canal to adjust the volume you want. B&H has the lowest price. I take them to all live music shows, just in case. They're really a great product.

Used it for the first time in a PIT and I have to say that they are by far the best earplugs I've used.
Very great light, stylish and great little case to protect them.
They wont block the sounds but eliminate all unwanted ones to only keep a clear sound

I love these plugs. I received them just before shooting a 2 day heavy metal festival from the photo pit... so yes, it was loud.
These things were easy to insert and remove, held up find the whole day, good construction. They blocked enough of the sound, but didnt muffle the music.
No ear ringing after being beside the speakers during a Motorhead show with 30,000+ in attendance.

I used these for the first time at a rock show, they're really snug which I like but after a while my ears got kind of sore from how they fit, not unbaringly sore but noticeably. However they did make the level of noise much lower without compromising clarity.

Comments about Etymotic Research ER-20 ETY-Plugs Triple-Flange Earplugs (Standard, Clear/Blue):
Hands down the best earplugs for concerts! They simply turn the volume down at a show, they don't plug up and distort the sound. I lost my first pair and immediately bought a second. The standard size fits well, the large size were too big. If they are too big they won't work at all.
