The Acratech Extended Universal L Bracket is a practical alternative to dedicated 'L' brackets. Its design allows the weight of the camera to stay centered over the tripod during vertical or portrait shots and it attaches to your camera with an "Arca" type clamp so it is quickly removed for hand held shots. The position of the quick release clamp on the 'L' bracket is adjustable, so you have plenty of room for wires and accessories.

Comments about Acratech Extended Universal L Bracket:
Obviously, this is an L bracket. No need to elaborate further its function. I preferred this removable type over dedicated ones. This is well built/designed and the "arca" type clamp is a neat feature.I have multiple DSLR's and can easily switch from one camera to another if the need arises. You need to have a dove tail plate attached on each camera, though. No problem at all in accessing the left side of the camera whenever you want to attach something like a remote shutter release & etc. There's another great use that I found on this puppy. During off days, I usually go out birding and a tripod with gimbal is just too cumbersome. Instead,I use a monopod with tilt head for my heavy telephoto lens. The only problem is, I can't use my (CB)gimbal mount flash bracket.I figured out a solution by mounting this bracket on the tilt head (with "arca" type clamp) and re-orient this bracket's clamp position, pointing front. You can then mount your lens (foot)the usual way and attach the flash bracket on the side. Overall, this is a great bracket and would highly recommend it.

Comments about Acratech Extended Universal L Bracket:
Switch portrait and landscape in a second. Light weight, solid construction and not bulky when even leaving space for access to left side of camera. I never take it off - it gives some protection for the camera and it is easier for me to grab the camera in a hurry.

Comments about Acratech Extended Universal L Bracket:
This L-bracket can be used by multiple cameras, making it unnecessary to have custom brackets for each body. The bracket has an additional mount, which can be moved separately from the bracket, providing additional flexibility. The biggest plus, as with any L-bracket, is the ability to quickly switch the camera 90 degrees without limiting movement of the ballhead. While the bracket is more flexible and being universal, it is more bulky than a custom fitted one. Additionally, the bracket needs to be removed in order to access anything on the left side of the camera.
