International orders*The DAC1 HDR from Benchmark is a multi-function, reference-quality stereo pre-amplifier, with the added convenience of intelligent remote control. Aside from the preamp, the DAC1 includes a digital-to-analog audio converter with UltraLock clock system, an advanced USB computer audio playback interface, and the company's HPA2 headphone amplifier.
The comprehensive set of inputs and outputs allows the unit to serve as the heart of large media and entertainment system, optimizing the signal path from the various sources to the amplifier. The DAC1 HDR will enhance the audio performance of a digital television, digital cable box, DVD/CD player, computer, music/media server, satellite radio, and any other device with a digital audio output.
The remote control of the unit is built around Benchmark's HDR-VC (high dynamic range volume control). The "Dim" (quiet) and "Soft-Mute" settings of the remote control can be easily adjusted independent of the normal volume setting, with recall available for the specified "Dim" setting. This feature is ideal for HDTV users, as it allows them to set their preferred "Dim" level for commercials, etc.
Volume control is achieved using a custom-built motorized Alps potentiometer. The motor-driven volume control maintains the dynamic range of the converter and audio output. (In contrast, digital volume controls reduce dynamic range, and analog volume integrated circuits introduce distortion and noise.) The "Soft-Mute" is a fade-down and fade up function.
The USB interface supports 24-bit audio at sample rates of up to 96kHz, without the need to install any drivers or other special software. Benchmark's UltraLock clock system isolates the converter from the high levels of jitter that are usually found on USB interfaces, allowing the performance of the USB input to equal that of the other inputs, regardless of the jitter present.
The built-in state-of-the-art converter will improve the sonic performance of any digital audio source, including the computer. Benchmark's product design has achieved unprecedented sonic purity due to an uncompromising engineering philosophy - eliminate digital distortion artifacts, establish a pristine analog path, and maintain sonic integrity, regardless of external factors. The HPA2 high-current, 0Ω headphone amplifier delivers the full rated performance of the DAC1 to the headphones via two sets of front-panel headphone connectors.
Note! The 220V model has the same switchable universal power supply as the 110V version, but is factory set to the correct voltage for each model. Operating voltage settings in both models can be changed in the field by rotating the fuse assembly.
Unit is RoHS compliant.
