This Letus Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum) allows you to view the image on your camera's LCD display through a high-quality optical viewfinder with 2.75x magnification, providing a large, bright image for better focus and composition when shooting HD video.  It's designed for use with the Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D, and with the optional extended riser, it can be used on the Canon 1D Mark IV and the 5D/7D with battery grip.

The Hawk viewfinder is completely custom designed, using 3 lenses in 2 groups for a totally flat image with no warping or loss of sharpness on the edges of the image. The lens is adjustable from +1.5 to -2.5 to accommodate near- and far-sighted users.

The Hawk attaches to your DSLR without any modifications to the camera--it includes a camera plate as a standard feature. The plate threads into the tripod mounting hole on the bottom of your camera and is adjustable in X, Y, and Z directions for compatibility with a full range of current and future DSLR cameras. The plate is threaded on the bottom so you can attach your existing quick release tripod plates, base plates, etc.

Mounting the Hawk using any articulating arm is also optionally possible. This allows you to have nearly unlimited mounting options for situations where standard mounting is difficult or impossible. An optional micro articulating arm custom-milled from stainless steel is also available.

Optics are fully coated with the same anti-fogging coatings used in the Letus relay lenses and 35mm adapters, for the best color fidelity while eliminating issues with fogging.

A full range of optional Talon support rod systems include a quick release camera plate to take the place of the standard Hawk camera plate. This upgraded plate allows you to choose whether the Hawk viewfinder stays attached to your camera or to the Talon support rods. With this configuration, you can leave the Hawk on the support rods and quick-release your camera for taking still images through the DSLR's standard viewfinder. This is a great feature for those who need to switch from video to stills quickly.

Comments about Letus35 Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum):

Picked this up as an alternative to the Zacuto Z-Finder. Saved myself some money to put towards glass in the future and I'm very impressed with the quality of the construction and optics. Diopter is great and the build quality is remarkable. Only real cons are the lack of included quick release and the lack of a more solid connection to the LCD screen. Would be nice to see a better shroud for the LCD to VF connection.

Comments about Letus35 Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum):

With the Letus Viewfinder I had no idea what to expect. I have been looking to buy a viewfinder for quite some time, and have researched the playing field quite a bit. Having tested the Zacuto and read all the reviews I could find around the web I finally settled on the Letus as its optics is supposedly marginally better than most of the rest in this price range.

So far I am not disappointed, the Letus is working perfectly and is really making a difference for the ease of controlling focus. Also the added contact point is stabilizing the freehand shots in a great way.

The only con I would make a point of is the fogging while moving, as the climate is colder where I film, this issue will be more pronounced than if you use it in California i.e.
If you want to loose some weight, get the carbon version of this viewfinder, I might try that out next time theres a refresh to the product line.
All in all a great product, well built and seems solid as a rock.

Comments about Letus35 Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum):

This is the best HDSLR viewfinder all around!

The design is simple, the viewing is good, the size and weight are right, and it's durable. But what sets this above its competitors is the quick release plate! To me, it's important that I don't need to screw or strap anything first before shooting, so I don't miss any moment. Yet it's attached firm enough, so I don't need to worry about it falling off.

I tried Zfinder, but the design is complicated. I tried the Cyclops, it gives the best viewing, but the size eats up my bag like a 70-200 does. I tried the Letus Hawk carbon fiber, but it's not as durable as the aluminum one.

So for now, this Letus Hawk aluminum is the best all around.

Comments about Letus35 Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum):

This is a great product, it does exactly what is says it does, however it is a little on the heavy side which can be good or bad depending on your own particular needs. Mounts to the bottom of the camera and does not have an option for a swing/pivot out, making the viewfinder fixed to the camera for the duration of your shoot.

I wear glasses. The eyecup is too small to use it with glasses on. I couldn't focus it sharply even with the diopter adjustment. Zacuto 2.5x was best for me.

Hawk Viewfinder needs getting used to. .

Comments about Letus35 Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum):

I'm not sure what I think about the Hawk Viewfinder yet. First, it requires some spatial intelligence to attach to the camera and it doesn't come with simple clear-cut assembly pictures. Second, while it does magnify my Canon 7D image all right, I still found it difficult to get the proper focus, even when I tried different lenses. I haven't given up yet, and I'll keep experimenting with it. I can't recommend it YET.

Comments about Letus35 Hawk Viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II and 7D (Aluminum):

Viewfinder attaches via baseplate and is diopter adjustable for different eyesights - one of the main reasons I opted for it over the Z-Finder (Zacuto)

              Great:

              - adjustable / swappable eye cone for left or right eye.

-effective 2.75 degrees of magnification - just right for inferior LCD screen on the Canon 5D MKII

              - quality componentry - option for attachable lanyard

              Not So Great:

              - permanently mounted plate takes up crucial space in my LowePro portable sling creating an issue when sealing for transport. Option for detachable baseplate may solve this.

              - no lockable diopter setting. Once desired focus is set - the eyecup then runs the risk of moving the setting when swivelling around.
