Iomega SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo Portable Hard Drive (1TB, Ruby Red)
The Iomega SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo Portable Hard Drive (1TB, Ruby Red) offers a digital storage capacity of 1TB and blazing transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps. It's compact, portable and bus-powered. Plus, it features the Iomega Power Grip band and Drop Guard Xtreme, which protect the drive from drops up to 7 ft. Since it's bus-powered, you can easily take it wherever your laptop goes and the efficient eGo drive requires less power to run, which conserves your laptop battery. The eGo drive is ideal for storing large files quickly, like movies, video and photos. For security, Iomega includes their downloadable Protection Software Suite and built-in AES 256-bit hardware encryption (PC only). There's also a Password Protect feature to keep entire folders safe. If needed, the USB 3.0 interface is backward compatible with a USB 2.0 interface.

I use the portable hard drive as my primary drive for work and home and it's super fast when both cables are hooked in. I have been using portable hard drives for 5 or 6 years now and this one is the best. I have my whole life with me wherever I go: pictures, movies, work and home spreadsheets and I never have to worry about server outages at work, etc. I can always get my work done because I always have my files. Most file saves take a few seconds and opening documents is quick too. It's an attractive package also.

I ordered the "Iomega eGo 1TB External USB 3.0/2.0 Portable Hard Drive Red". I needed more storage capacity, I have three previous Iomega HDs models and their body (case or shell) is made of aluminum, BUT NOT THIS ONE, I am disappointed, I was expecting it to be constructed the same way (aluminum) as the other ones, but this is made of thin PLASTIC, it looks fragile, it came with the "Grip Band" to add more protection but that is not enough for me. I guess that's why I couldn't see it on display anywhere. I should have bought the "Prestige" or the "LaCie Rikiki'.

I travel to austere environments a lot and have always had bad luck with other brands of portable hard drives (WD mainly). Usually they get banged around or dropped somehow and end up malfunctioning and clicking when you boot them up. This is the only type of hard drive I took with me to Afghanistan that made it through the trip without corrupting any data or media and is still functioning perfectly. If you want a solid reliable hard drive for your videos, photos or back ups look no further. the USB 3.0 cable allows for Gigs of data to be moved to and from your computer very quickly. I will never buy any other brand of portable hd. Another great feature is that it does not require an external power source which for a TB drive is pretty awesome.

This is my third Iomega USB HD; the first two are 320GB Go Drives. The 1 TB eGo has not dissapointed yet. I use the drive for back up of roughly 700 albums worth of music files (the original wav. recording, the .wav tracks and the converted MP3 files). The drive gets a lot of write, move and erase activity as I am recording and then using editing software to clean up the recordings before turning the files into tracks that can be burned to CDs.
Size is great, the USB connection seems more secure than the cable on the prior 2 320GB drives.
I am not fond of the virtual CD partition but that could have been removed before I started putting stuff on the HD (I elected to keep it and would not take it off now as I belive everything on the drive is lost when you take out the virtual partition).

The ruby red Iomega SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo drive is a beauty. I got this device after my friend recommended it. Worth every dime. The rubber guard protects the drive from shocks and normally I skin it off when I want to slide it into my trouser pocket. The device is not just contemporary in its design but also in its functions. I don't keep a note of data I am dumping onto my blazing hot Ruby Red eGo portable hard drive because it has a whole lot of space, 1TB is an ocean.
The drive may be small but yet security features are not compromised as it comes with 256 bit hardware encryption that safeguards my data. Its design is better and lot faster than its contemporaries, yes I will give a thumbs up for this product.

B&H Photo had the best online price, [...] A full TB portable/USB drive .. what a great convenience! The only thing that keeps this from all 5 stars is its rotational speed: just 5400 RPM. When iOmega beefs this up to 7200, it'll deserve all 5 stars! I like the jock strap that protects it from drops.
