The Western Digital 600GB WD 3.5" VelociRaptor SATA Hard Drive is truly an animal. Designed for high-performance desktop chassis, the VelociRaptor boasts a drive speed of 10,000 RPM and transfer speeds up to 6 Gb/s. It runs cool and affords a monstrous capacity of 600GB. The VelociRaptor features NoTouch ramp load technology and Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward, which optimizes performance. NoTouch ramp load technology limits wear and tear to the drive. The DATA drive is housed in an IcePack mounting frame with built-in heat sink that dissipates heat and keeps the drive cool. What can I say? I've been very happy with Western Digital Drives for several years. I found them extremely reliable and, so far, is the only drive (manufacture) that has not crashed on me. I moved my video Work files from a standard 7200RPM WD SATAII drive onto this (10kRPM SATAIII). I really didn't expect to see much difference, but wanted the extra space. Wow - my largest video project now loads faster. I'll have to do some benchmarking to get exact figures, but what used to take about 2 minutes (start to ready-to-use) now takes about one minute. My logic tells me it can't. That is to say, 7200RPM vs 10,000RPM doesn't equal that much difference. The difference must be the SATAII to SATAIII controller. Whatever it is, I am really happy. The price was great (for a retail drive) [...] I actually bought another a couple of days later for my Boot Drive, but haven't moved over to it yet. I can't wait to see the difference in Windows Loading.

Comments about Western Digital 600GB WD VelociRaptor SATA Hard Drive:
I already owned 1 of these drives for about a year now. Fast & reliable always, not a hitch.
I replaced a SSD with the 600 GB Velociraptor & couldn't be happier. I have noticed no difference in speed & for the price, I got a ton more storage.
I use the drive for pro audio apps, recording hi-res audio out of Logic9, mainly. 8 core MacPro & 2 Veloci's, this system runs great!

Received the drives, installed them and they worked right out of the box. Extremely fast. I use these for my OS and some data. I have other drives of 1TB and 2TB that most of my data is stored on.

Comments about Western Digital 600GB WD VelociRaptor SATA Hard Drive:
I use it as the primary disk with OS installed on it. It makes a great difference compared to the regular 7200rpm previous disk. The whole system rushes to provide what I want. It runs silently.

I have used raptor drives for over 5 years. I have never had a failure, or even some much as a hiccup. They are fast, reliable, and smooth. I trust all my photography data with these drives.

I have really liked every WD raptor drive I have gotten. They are reliable and have good performance for the price. This is an app/swap partition drive to keep the swap of the SSD.- B&H had the best price when I was shopping around and they have google checkout. [...]

I prefer using this HD over the new SSD. I feel they are more reliable then the SSD type of HD. The read and write sppeds are awesome.
