Office for Mac Home and Business Edition 2011 from Microsoft is a powerful suite of productivity applications, written for Mac OS X. The suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

New features of Office 2011 include Office Web Apps, Coauthoring, a ribbon and toolbar for quick function access, a Template Gallery, photo editing options, a full screen view, slide show broadcasting, and more.

Word

Publishing Layout View
Create visually rich newsletters, brochures, and documents easily. A powerful user interface gives users the ability to easily manipulate the layering of text, shapes, pictures, SmartArt, and charts in a document. Word also features new ligatures for more professional-looking documents, and new typography features for more creative document options
Visual Styles
Instantly see the Styles applied in your document, enabling great-looking documents with consistent, recurring formatting. And with the introduction of Styles Visual Aids in Word 2011, there are now color-coded visual aids that reinforce the relationship between Styles and in‐document content, while also providing one‐click checking for potential formatting errors. Styles are easier to use and more reliable than ever
Full Screen View
Maximize the space for reading and writing documents. The Full Screen View feature enables a Word user to block out all other windows, menus, palettes, and other superfluous content on the screen, to be able to completely focus on the task at hand: either reading or editing a Word document
Reorder Objects
Reorder Objects enables you to easily rearrange layers of text, photos, and graphics throughout your documents. This new functionality allows users to intuitively and directly manipulate the layers to achieve more predictable results, without cumbersome clicking and dragging
Word Web App
Post, access, edit, and share your files from virtually anywhere. Word is now integrated with Windows Live SkyDrive, so that your documents can be stored, viewed, edited, and shared in the cloud from any computer with Internet access. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer on Windows, Safari on Mac or Windows, and Firefox on Mac or Windows
Coauthoring
Word for Mac 2011 enables several collaborators to simultaneously edit the same document from different computers in different locations. During a coauthoring session, users can see when updates occur, be informed of presence of the other collaborators, block other authors from making changes to sections they are working on, and work around conflicting changes

PowerPoint

Photo Editing
Create visually rich presentations by touching up your photos right in PowerPoint. Remove backgrounds or add color filters, all with just one click
Broadcast Slide Show
Move beyond the conference room and use the cloud to broadcast your presentations online, with minimal setup time and no special software required. Now, anyone can be "present" for your presentation
Reorder Objects
Reorder Objects enables you to easily reorder layers of text, photos, and graphics throughout your presentation. This new functionality allows users to intuitively and directly manipulate the layers to achieve more predictable results, without cumbersome clicking and dragging
Presenter View
Rehearse, check your timing, or take notes while you present in Presenter View. Use visual cues to keep presenters on time, and integrate enhanced recorded narration and rehearse features
PowerPoint Web App
Post, access, edit, and share your presentation decks from virtually anywhere. PowerPoint is now integrated with Windows Live SkyDrive, so that your documents can be stored, viewed, edited, and shared in the cloud from any computer with Internet access. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer on Windows, Safari on Mac or Windows, and Firefox on Mac or Windows
Coauthoring
PowerPoint for Mac 2011 enables several collaborators to simultaneously write and edit the same document from different computers in different locations. During a coauthoring session, users can see when updates occur, be informed of presence of the other collaborators, block other authors from making changes to sections they are working on, and work around conflicting changes

Excel

Conditional Formatting
Create rich, visually compelling datasheets and tables with icons, data bars, and color scales. See enhancements like borders, solid colors, and negative values, as well as pre-packaged choices for formatting and filtering, including "Top 10," "Bottom 10%," "Text That Contains," and more
Sparklines
Sparklines are thumbnail‐sized charts that permit users to view large volumes of data at a glance, enabling the easy spotting of trends in time‐series data, or trendlines. Data can be expressed in bar, line, or column form. Sparklines are based on the OfficeArt engine, so they are rendered with very high quality and fidelity. They may also be "themed" to adopt specific color sets
Tables
Organize, filter, and format related data with Excel tables. Make managing and analyzing a group of related data easier: you can turn a range of cells into an easily viewed and manipulated Excel table. You can even insert more than one table into a single worksheet
PivotTables
Spend less time sifting through data, and more time analyzing with automatic PivotTables. The popular PivotTable feature distills large sets of data into crisp summaries, and easily shows the cross‐tabular relationships between variables in the data. And in Excel 2011, PivotTables are more compatible with Windows Excel and have been redesigned for ease of use
Visual Basic
In enterprise situations where there is a mix of PCs and Macs, the Visual Basic feature works easily across all platforms. Visual Basic offers new features including IntelliSense and watch windows, as well as the Visual Basic debugging toolbar and new debugging tools
Excel Web App
Post, access, edit, and share your files from virtually anywhere. Excel is now integrated with Windows Live SkyDrive so that your documents can be stored, viewed, edited, and shared in the cloud from any computer with Internet access. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer on Windows, Safari on Windows or Mac, Firefox on Windows or Mac

Outlook

Conversations
Condense long e-mail threads under a single subject, freeing up your inbox space
Calendar View in E-mail
See your schedule displayed right in the meeting invitation. Users can also have more than one calendar, open others' calendars, and view calendars side by side with each other
.PST Import
Now you can migrate to Outlook for Mac from Windows. Just bring your .PST and use the simple import tool. It's that easy
Unified Inbox
Consolidate all your e-mail, from work and home, into a single folder. Streamline all your messages into one place, use one address book instead of many, and never lose track of where or how you're working
My Day
Manage your schedule and contacts within Outlook. See easy at-a-glance views of your calendar no matter where you access it-from the desktop or on mobile devices
OS X Integration
Outlook for Mac 2011 integrates easily with whatever operating system you are using, including Mac OS X or Windows 7. Regular and complicated workflows are much more lightweight. Preview attachments or back up your data using Time Machine. And common experiences are consistent across Outlook for Mac, Outlook Web Access, and Windows Outlook

I purchased this primarily for Word and Outlook. Overall, they are great programs. I just wish there was more competition for these kinds of programs for Mac users. It seems that Microsoft makes a dumbed down version of their programs for Mac users. I'd love to thumb my nose to Microsoft; for now, its decent.

I mainly bought this product for the outlook and word features. the word seems to be a better format and more user friendly than previous word variations. for a while there, it was very counter-intuitive for all formatting issues. that is why I gave it 2 stars. the outlook feature is VERY disappointing. it CANNOT sync your calendar to your iPhone nor can it talk to iCal and Mobile Me. in addition to email that is outlook's entire reason for existing! lame. Don't buy it.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business Edition 2011:

I replaced my PC with a Mac recently and one of the requirements was MS Office that was almost identical to the existing PC version... 2011 is just that, and made the switch easy for me, with very little learning curve.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business Edition 2011:

While there are some things I do like about the new Office suite, there are definitely a number of downsides, particularly with PowerPoint. It seems as if Microsoft cannot make up its mind when designing software. While they improved some functionality, they also changed some basic things like shortcuts which does not make sense at all. They have even removed features in some of the applications. I mainly use PowerPoint and I am not sure whether or not I will need to revert to the older version. The main complaint I have is that you can no longer take palettes off of the ribbon and place them anywhere you like. They've limited the ability to customize toolbars and other features which seems counter intuitive. And how many times have they changed basic shortcuts over the years like "Find/Replace" and "Group/Ungroup". Everytime I get new software I have to re-learn the shortcuts. Finally, what is up with the guides. There is still a problem where they disappear when flipping through slides, even though it is selected to appear. Atleast you can create more than one guide, versus the previous version that wouldn't allow it. I have a lot more complaints, but I am going to leave it at that. Hopefully Microsoft will realize that they cannot rely solely on the fact that they have an incredible market share and will start to actually design useful software that does not hinder the user and change dramatically from version to version. Boy, I wish they would hire me to do some user testing.

Switching from PC to MAC is a big step. Being able to use a version of a familiar program like MS Office is making this transition alot easier and less complicated. MS Office for MAC 2011 is wonderful! It is great to be able to open a docx document and share files with both MAC and PC users! Since MS Office met my needs since 2003 I hadn't upgraded. The updated features make this program really worth having! Now, I just need some time and maybe some tutoring to learn the new features!

I bought Office 2011 for Mac because I bought a new MacBook Pro, but I just can't do without Word & Excel. I love it. There are new features and there's a slightly different look to the programs, but it's for the better and you'll get used to the changes in no time. A thumbs-up from me.
