It's very similar to Office for Windows which I use at work. The Mac version has a ribbon also. There's really not much else to say. If you use Office then this is practically the same. I recommend this over Mac iWork. I tried iWork for a couple months and couldn't get into it. Every time I'd export it into .doc or .xls there would be colors I hadn't input (I had only black text and white background). I've read there were problems converting a trial version to permanent so I just bought it without installing a trial version.

Bought it because my old office didn't work with OSX Lion. Right off the bat Powerpoint had critical errors with copying and pasting text from a web page. Microsoft is the king of adding features that just seem to clog up the interface and don't even work the way you'd expect or even want them to.
Office needed an update out of the box that I didn't even know about. The software didn't detect it since it doesn't come with an autoupdate feature. Even little free apps come with autoupdate these days.
I own a mac because I want to steer clear of these types of hassles that create more work for me than they help to solve. Waste of money, but it's an industry standard that I'm obligated to use. I'd rather use Apple's iWork suite but it's not 100% back and forth compatible.

Office for Mac Home and Student Edition allows someone that has worked primarily in windows to transition to a mac in their office, home or at school. Easy to use after a couple days of getting used to where all of the various settings and controls are.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student Edition 2011:
I upgraded from an old version of Office for Mac. The interface added a lot more features that I'll never use and looks a lot more complicated and distracting. Word seems like it's more powerful than Photoshop when judged by appearance, but it's really just a word processor. I don't know why Microsoft is so incapable of making this intuitive and user friendly.
I use Word for word processing and Excel for creating invoices.
I really only upgraded for the compatibility with newer formats and with OSX Lion. In other words, I was forced.

Works efficiently with Office for Windows. No compatibility issues at all. The free application on the web isn't as compatible as they say. Office for Mac is money well spent.

I came over to Mac from being a Windows user my whole life, and like many others I was a little nervous about the conversion... but so far so good, and this Microsoft office has helped a lot, same layout and controls basically as windows version, so very user friendly, and definitely worth the money.

Bought the product from B&H. Tried to activate with the key on the CD sleeve and it does not work. Microsoft support keeps bouncing me between their activation center and technical support departments. Now, I am two hours into the activation process and still does not have a working product. Total frustration!!!!

Rarely use MS Office and NEVER use Outlook. I need the program as occasionally I need to work on MS files. This package was perfect as it doesn't come with Outlook. Price point is about what the program should cost. I haven't tried opening other files yet so I can't say much about compatibility.
