The SilverFast Resolution Target from LaserSoft Imaging is a simple software to determine your scanner's maximum usable resolution. As a second important application, the Target helps you find the optimum sharpness settings for a chosen resolution. You can also find the best compromise between high resolution and sharpness for your scanner. It also determines which particular parts of your flatbed scanner are sharply or blurrily scanned. Based on the USAF-1951 standard, LaserSoft Imaging developed the SilverFast Resolution Target to make the actual usable resolution of a scanner measurable. This is a transparent scan original, suitable for either flatbed or film scanners* with a transparency adapter.
The structure and elements of the Resolution Target are defined as per American military standards. On the Target there are smaller elements, each consisting of black bars of precisely defined width and spacing. These individual elements are numbered and organized into groups on the Resolution Target. The usable resolution of the scanner is defined by the smallest elements in the Resolution Target where there is a barely discernible gap between two black bars. The Resolution Target can also detect sharpness at various resolutions. You can now find the optimum resolution for scanning and differentiate the sharpness at different points in the scanned area of a flatbed scanner.
Note:*The SilverFast Resolution Target (USAF 1951) can be used with any film and flatbed scanner (Transparency Adaptor required) and with any SilverFast scanner software version.
Resolution Target in combination with SilverFast software is a simple way to determine the maximum resolution of your scanner. This will help you scan with the best possible crispness and sharpness.
