Basically what Microsoft did is port Office 2010 to Mac and make it look somewhat more mac-like. It looks totally different than Office for Mac 2008 and so far it's been pretty buggy. The search feature does not work very well, for example. Hopefully they'll address and make some updates soon.

I was upgrading from Office 2004, so this was a big upgrade. The refinements and additional features are definitely worth the money. Especially in excel. The ribbon interface, and the ease of turning on and off the differnt parts of the ribbon interface without needing to navigate menues is a huge time-saver.

In the Windows version there are no pull-down menus, only the unlabeled icons that take months to get used to.
With the Mac version you have both!!!
Cake and eat it too.
The Windows version I have at work slowed me down for months as I struggled to find out which icon or menu I needed....

This is the best value for your bucks. I purchase this at B&H due to a special promotion [$] and you can install up to 3 systems. The bundle includes MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It just perfect for my budget and it good enough for my school work. Microsoft Office Mac 2011 is a great product.

I upgraded to the 2011 edition from the 2006. The interface is much crisper looking and there are more editing options and choices are more accessible.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student Edition 2011 (Family Pack):
Required upgrade of earlier Office for Mac versions in order to be compatible with OSX Lion (10.7.x). Be sure to download and install various patches that solve some issues when this version of Office for Mac was first released, especially if you're using OSX 10.7 (and later in 2012, 10.8)
The software does what it's supposed to do. My only criticism is the interface is becoming increasingly more cluttered and complex. With each new version, a long-time user like me has to re-learn how the various functions and options are organized and presented.

I generally use Microsoft Office for basic stuff like writing documents, but I'm glad Office for Mac was as easy to use as the one intended for use with PC's.
Also I found B&H had the best prices in the market. Notice that if you buy this family edition, you are able to install it 3 times, in different or the same computer :D

This is by far the best deal that Microsoft has for the Mac user with more than one system. The bundle includes MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint 2011. It can be installed on up to 3 systems.

Having versions of Office for the Max eliminates the need for having a laptop cluttering your desk so you can read word docs while working on the mac. This was a much needed software bundle to save yourself some time and computer switching.

I have hundreds of Word, Excel & Power Point files that were generated when I was a PC user, and Mac's iWorks "equivalent" applications does not work well with these legacy files. With iWorks, the more complicated files had to be reworked and I found that Numbers & Keynote just did not have a lot of the Excel & Power Point commands and I was doing work arounds.
Since I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac, all these issues have disappeared due to the transparency between Office on the PC and Office on the Mac.

Bought this at B&H due to price. B&H is always cheaper than retail and other internet sites.
MS Office is MS Office. You can pay more elsewhere, or get it cheaper in a couple days from here.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student Edition 2011 (Family Pack):
all the three products in this set seem essentially about the same as before
I had to buy this new version since my previous office for mac would NOT work under LION
[MAC OS 10.7.x.]
word actually seems slower, by a lot, maybe it is doing things in the background, have no idea and no idea to turn whatever on or off
it is nice that it turns fractions into real typographic fractions
installation was easy BUT Excel would not work. Called tech support at Microsoft and got the installation dept in India which was useless and finally got transferred to their "tech support" people (in Nova Scotia) and they went through methodically
de=installing the preferences for excel in the HIDDEN Library (an idiotic feature of Lion) and turning off an obscure command in the system preferences and then re-starting and everything worked.
WHY, why, why, there cannot be a flag or separate read me file for issues with LION I do not know, it would save everybody a lot of time

Installed on a new MacBook Pro with 8GB. Nothing much else on the machine, no "enhancements" installed. So far, it's crashed twice in 2-3 hours of use. Nothing else on the computer has ever crashed. It works, when it wants to. I wish Pages was more compatible.
