I was deciding between this and another lighter tripod, but went with this one because it could hold more weight up top. Most of my shoots are outside, so I carry equipment everywhere and this tripod is a breeze! The legs extend and retract fairly quickly. It is also nice that the plate comes off quickly to attach my camera.
The only thing I don't like about it is the need for the top handle to be screwed in, just to lock the top in place. (It has been 8 years since I professionally shot, so I am not sure if all tripods are made this way now.) But I am quickly getting used to loosening it and tightening it to get my shots.

I WISH I could have given this tripod 5 stars! It seems like a great piece of equipment and the features are all there. But the first one I had, within days, I noticed a crack in the hinge above one of the three buttons used to release the ratcheting mechanism (for the independent legs). Sent it back; excited to get the new one. Took it out to show a friend, pushed one of those aforementioned "buttons", and it just came right off. Also, the up/down tilt handle juts out directly into your chin when trying to look through the view finder. Other models have it angled slightly downward, probably for that very reason. I didn't give this product a third try; ordered a different tripod (from B&H of course!)

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG Tripod W/FX12 Head:
For the price tag, I think this is a great tripod to fufills its purpose. It's sturdy, has several handles and adjustments, and the fluid head is quite smooth. I like that I have the option to drop it down to only 8" off the ground, but also quite high (I believe about 6 feet) if need be. I know there are many other tripods out there that may be far superior, more sturdy, better legs, etc, but for the price, you can't beat this one. Are you really doing to see a difference in your video quality in a $100 tripod versus a $1,000 tripod? I doubt it.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG Tripod W/FX12 Head:
I have not had the opportunity to use it a lot yet, but my initial response is that this is a great little tripod for a someone like me that is not a professional.
It is very sturdy yet not that heavy to carry around. I don't do long hikes so I don't need a real light weight one.
I loaded it with my D90 and my biggest zoom lens and it held its position very well.
The Fluid head moves quite nicely if I want to use the video option with the camera.
I purchased a spare quick release which I think is a smart move. I could only find them here at B&H so that could be a problem in the future. I once had a cheapie tripod and lost the quick release and that was the end of that tripod. With the 10 year warranty and a spare quick release, I should be good for a long time.
The one area that does concern me, is that there appears to be no way to secure the tilt. Right now it is plenty tight to hold the camera, but if it gets loosened, there is no adjustment I can see. But then it has a 10 year warranty so hopefully that won't be an issue.
The other thing that is sort of a negative is that you have to unscrew the arms to put the tripod in the carry bag. Not a big deal but it is time consuming and if not careful you could lose an arm.

I am a professional videographer that films web content and weddings. This tripod is very sturdy and does exactly what I expect of it. It is a bit on the heavy side in comparison to other choices but since my camera is around 5 pounds, it is necessary that I have something that has weight to it.

Tripod feels sturdy but is a little heavier than I thought. To get it back in travel bag you have to remove handles but this is a minor problem.
I would recommend this tripod.

We bought a professional video camera and tried 3 different tripods from department stores. All 3 ended up in the dumpster with broken legs! I finally decided to shop where I bought the camera and found this heavy-duty, inexpensive tripod that does exactly what I need it to do! I love the sturdy construction and the easy movement! The only negative is that it is a little heavier than I was expecting, but it comes with a case to carry it with!

I am using this tripod for filming the art of turkey hunting. The tripod is great for this, and sometimes I walk over 5 miles a day carrying this and much other gear. The only two problem that I have had with this product are as follows: One of the butons that releases the legs (when you unfold them) flew off about the third time I used the Tripod, (waiting to hear back from the manufacturer). Secondly, it is not possible to level the head and then keep your camera level when trying to pan on uneven ground, when following moving game, unless the ground is perfectly level.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG Tripod W/FX12 Head:
I only used it so far for night photography of docked commercial fishing ships in Cape May, NJ. I wanted to get the star affects from the ships' tungsten lighting. The camera and lens weighed about ten lbs. The tripod easily handled the weight. The tripod is heavy, but the conditions on the ocean can be windy. Because of the windy conditions, the weight is a benefit. [...]

I am an amateur so I could not justify an expensive tripod (which is in and of itself an amateur move). This has worked great for our meeting recording but I wish the pan action was smoother.

I am an amateur photographer and this is the first real tripod I have purchased. I love the flexibility, stability, and excellent control that this tripod offers. My photo's saw an instant increase in quality.
The main con with this tripod is that the manual is not very helpful. There are a lot holes on this tripod that the manual does not talk about at all. The other con is that the head has to be disassembled to fit in the case. Other than that I love it.
