This magnificent machine is capable of handling virtually any media type; rolls or cut sheets up to 44"/1118mm wide. It utilizes a compilation of the most recent printer technologies to deliver superior quality photos, panoramas, transparencies, graphics, signage and fine art.
At the heart of the Stylus Pro 9890 is Epson's high performance, one-inch wide eight-channel MicroPiezo TFP print head with 360 nozzles per channel. It works in conjunction with the UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta ink system comprised of eight high-density pigment colors including newly formulated green and orange. These high-performance inks provide the 9890 with the ability to deliver stunning prints that are sure to delight and impress. The combination of an extremely wide color gamut, exceptional shadow detail, superb contrast, depth and smooth tonal gradations can only provide the very highest quality imagery.
A standout innovation in Epson's large format printing arsenal is an automatic black ink switching system. This system is a huge improvement over the manual switching system in earlier models that was inconvenient and difficult to use. You can now seamlessly switch between Photo Black and Matte Black inks; the result is optimum black ink density regardless of media type used, with minimal ink usage. Factoring in an outstanding resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi, the Stylus Pro 9890 is more than capable of delivering all that you would expect from a printer of this magnitude.
- High-Precision Eight-Channel Epson MicroPiezo TFP Print Head
- Epson's Thin Film Piezo (TFP) print head design is capable of handling eight separate ink channels. It features a one-inch wide high-performance print head with 360 nozzles per channel and includes the ultra-convenient auto-sharing black ink channel technology. Plus, it produces variable-sized ink droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters to greatly decrease print times while optimizing photographic quality. The TFP also features low vibration meniscus control for highly accurate dot shape and placement, and an all-new ink-repelling coating dramatically reduces nozzle clogging.

- The UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta Ink is an eight-color, pigment-based ink system utilizing a superior pigment-based ink technology with a unique form of high-density pigments. This formulation delivers a higher density form of magenta pigment for increased color gamut. It also displays significant color gamut improvements in blue and purples. This technology yields stable color immediately after printing with no short-term color shifting, superior scratch resistance, and incredible black density improvements up to 2.6 Dmax with an L* value of approximately 3.0 for any media type. It has Outstanding short-term color stability for mission-critical Improved Microcrystal Encapsulation technology for reduced gloss differential.
- User Verified Automatic Black Ink Mode Switching
- Epson's MicroPiezo TFP print head technology allows the printer to share the same physical ink channel between both Matte and Photo Black inks. The correct black ink mode is automatically used depending upon the printer driver or front control panel settings. To reduce user errors, the user must confirm the switch at the front control panel.

- PreciseColor Manufacturing is a unique production technology to ensure printer-to-printer color consistency. Colorimetric calibration is performed during the manufacturing process which automatically evaluates and adjusts the color performance of each printer produced. Auto Roll Media Identification works with both genuine Epson and custom media settings, and can be disabled if it is not required by your workflow.

- The Epson SpectroProofer 44 is an optional in-line spectrophotometer developed jointly with X-Rite. It is simply installed into the front of the Stylus Pro 9890. It includes both black and white interchangeable backing plates, a built-in print dryer to accelerate the dry-down and reading process, and built-in temperature sensors for internal mechanism and surrounding environment. Additionally, it incorporates an X-Rite ILS20 device which uses a high-accuracy spectrum filter tungsten lamp for extreme measurement accuracy and is capable of reading 15 color patches per second per scan line.
