Sony's Vegas Pro Production Assistant 2 is a plug-in that enhances functionality of Vegas Pro software. It's designed to streamline the workflow of professional broadcasters and editors by automating many tasks and processes--saving hours of tedious editing work. Along with the batch processing, project templates, and video tutorials of past versions, this latest edition of Production Assistant includes automated media card workflow and cataloging of content.
- Workflow Automation Tools
- The Vegas Pro Production Assistant plug-in includes tools to automatically insert crossfades between clips, add and customize lower thirds, and create photo and video montages from your media. It also streamlines common tasks such as stereo to mono split, crossfade creation, audio ducking, and archiving.
- Project Templates
- Setting up a Vegas Pro project as a template--with your regularly used titles, lower thirds, credits, and empty placeholder events--is a powerful way to save time on repetitive tasks. The Production Assistant takes efficiency to a whole new level. Simply select the media you want to replace your placeholder slugs, click to process, and voila! Your project is ready to go. With project templates, you'll never have to start with an empty project again!

The downside to this software is that it is not very intuitive, and therefore takes some study, more than some other software. I have used a thirid party production assisstant type software and while it lacked in features, it was simple to learn.
However, with a bit of study, once learned, this software will save HOURS, if not WEEKS, of production time doing the busy work, inserting lower thirds, bugs, rendering, etc.
If you have many repetitive tasks in your video productions, this software is a great companion to Sony Vegas Pro.
My firm is in the process of producing training videos, and this software has saved a lot of time and tedious mouse clicking.
My complaint is that it should be included in the Vegas Pro software, not sold as an add-on.
