LumiQuest's Softbox LTp (10 x 14") is a very large softbox designed for use off-camera with a portable speedlight. The surface area of the LTp (140 sq. in.) is more than 40x that of the flash itself, which spreads the light further, producing softer shadows than smaller softboxes. The LTp is designed exclusively for off-camera use. Folds to fit a laptop pocket in a camera bag.

I watched a video of David Hobby (Strobist.com) using this softbox and thought I'd give it a try. I use several diffusers but this little softbox really fits my needs for quick portrait and onsite product work. It's easy to store and sets up quickly. There are light gaps between the segments along the sides but it doesn't interfer with accurate output from the flash. I'm not too excited about the way the velco grabs onto everything in sight but that's what velco is supposed to do. You do have to take good care not to tear the softbox. It's not made of very sturdy material but the price is right!

Help me I'm melting.
Tried it out for the first time at our 4th of July Pool Party and I'm not sure I'm real happy with it. Seems like a lot of money for what you get.

Tried it out for the first time at our 4th of July Pool Party and I'm not sure I'm real happy with it. Seems like a lot of money for what you get.
For one it really has a hard time in the hot weather. It kept getting hot and kinda melting around the flash and pointing to the ground. I had to stop several times and put it in the refrigerator to get it back into its original shape. Maybe in milder temperatures that will not be an issue?
It also doesn't seem to diffuse all that great. And the quality of light is a bit poor. Maybe if it was lined with silver instead of white and had different diffusion martial like cloth instead of plastic.
I might need to do something to it to help hold its shape in the hot temperatures and also close the light cracks out the back as well. I might try putting some more Velcro on the joints that should solve the light cracks and might solve some of the heat wilting.
As for the good; I need to have a soft box that I can pack away for travel and this does a good job of that.

I bought this product after seeing the recommendations from the Strobist website. I sponsor the local roller derby ladies and was asked to take portraits. Purchasing four of them, I was able to make sure that my subjects were well lit while having the background dark. These units are durable, fit well into the laptop portion of my bag and work really well. The only problem that I have is that they are so heavy that my D700 need additional support in order to keep the head swiveled in the up position.

I like it. Nice and portable and is a good large (relatively) source. I like how it fits into my backpack's laptop compartment. Good build quality. I hear that LumiQuest replaces any defective item for life, so that's good news.

I cannot believe I did without this thing. Softened my light while on the beach with enough fill to expose for the background and softly fill for a beautiful finished product.
Strong but light. Soft light but no major loss of ability to fill effectively.

The LTp softbox is a nice addition to any strobist kit. It is very compact and is easily setup. This product is durable and reliable.
Comments about LumiQuest Softbox LTp (10 x 14"):
not the best construction takes about 15-30 seconds to assemble in order to conect it too the flash u have to either attach velcro permanently to ur speedlight, or buy there detachable velcro strap for about 12 bucks

I will start by saying that I am on a tight budget. But I needed something that would give me good soft light for portraits (mainly head and shoulder stuff). I really liked the quality of light this thing gave me. I have a slightly larger softbox that I am using as a main light so I use this as a fill light. Photos are on the money everytime. This week I will experiment on the field with this softbox and my speedlight. I feel confident I will get what I want, so for at home it has performed well. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for. The bigger the softbox the better the light, but you also pay more.

Easy to use and portable, and improves light quality. I haven't used it too much yet, but I like what I have done. You need to put it fairly close to the subject for softer light, but as it's not huge that's to be expected.

Fits in the back with my laptop, folds up or open easily, quick and easy to attach to the flash. Works very well in close as soft light or to feather the light from a hand held position.

Bought this to use while I'm on the move at local events & concerts. 2 great things..it's easy to fit in your camera bag. I carry a laptop or sometimes my ipad to check pics..slip this LumiQuest Softbox LTp right in there in your camera bag. Also..it works for great portrait, small group shots and when you're trying to soften up the light..this works perfectly!

I saw Joe McNally on the flashbus tour using this for pictures. It throws light really well and as an off camera flash the light is soft and pleasing. I think this is the best product I could have gotten. I like that it folds up easier then carrying around an umbrella. First wedding I used it in it did exactly what I wanted it to.

This is a great product. It is strong, lightweight, and produces soft light for its size. It issues I have with it are light spill. When connected h to a 580 ex ii the corners don't fold together all the way. So if you need tight control over the light k it fails because light is still thrown around the room. Also the corners get bent when in a bag. So stiffer corners would be nice! This is still a great product to keep with you at all times, just in case.

This is the best portable softbox. It's small enough to fold up and put in your camera bag if you have a laptop case. The quality is great and it spreads enough soft light around. Sometimes it dips down when you attach it to a speedlight but still holds up very well.

Its pretty easy to use. I literally pulled it out, easily figured out how it fits, and was shooting with it on my flash within a minute. Very easy to use and really nice light. It is really light and does break down to be very thin. It is a little long (on the long side), but nothing extreme for sure. Lets just say it beats carrying around an open 50" umbrella

I bought this softbox because of the price and how it can fold into a laptop storage sleeve. I use this often and for the light quality I get out of it I think it was one heck of a deal. The price is right and the size is even better. At the end of the day I can stow it away in the laptop sleeve of my camera backpack and take it on a flight with me anywhere I need to go
