The Sunpak 423PX2 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod with Compact Pistol Grip Head features a ball head with a trigger-action pistol grip that instantly unlocks the head and locks it in place: Just squeeze, position, and release. Nothing could be simpler for changing setups quickly. The 15.4 lb load capacity makes the tripod suitable for DSLRs even with long lenses, or for compact video cameras.
The action of the head makes the camera support better suited for shooting stills, but video projects such as sit-down interviews should be well-served by the 423PX2. The 423PX2's quick-release platform allows 360° of rotation to facilitate panning for video shooting, or small adjustments when shooting stills. The ball head features a bubble level and a rubber gripping surface.
The tripod's three-section sticks are ultra-rigid and light, constructed of seven-layer carbon fiber. The legs' flip-lever locks make it a simple matter to adjust their extension, whether or not it's glove weather.

The compact pistol head is extremely easy to use without requiring a lot of grip pressure to adjust, but stay's firmly in place once adjusted. The head also come with 3 bubble levels on it to help with leveling the camera. They are quite small and hard to read with the camera attached but still nice to have them included. The pistol grip head is nice for stationary shooting but not the easiest for panning.
The tripod it's self does not weigh a lot (listed as 3lbs) and my only complaint is that the smallest leg section is just 13mm (about 1/2") thick. They will flex a little with lateral movement so only time will tell how well they hold up. The lever locks for the legs lock them firmly in place with no slippage and an allen key is included incase they ever need to be tightened up.
It can adjust to a max height of 65.75" and a min height of 10.5" once the normal (aka: long) center column is replaced with the supplied short center column. So the tripod and compact pistol head are easily adjusted for low angle shooting as well.
The box listed the max wight capacity as 15.4 pounds and while I have not come close to testing that weight limit I think it might be a bit over stated, but again only time will tell it it can handle those type of loads.
The supplied carrying case is padded enough to help protect the tripod during transport and has a small pocket inside for the short column and allen key (or any other supplies you want to cram in there). The carry strap is also nicely padded to make carrying it over a shoulder very comfortable.
Over all a great tripod at a low cost. My only complaint coming from how flimsy the lowest leg section seems. This is however my first carbon fiber tripod so I am unsure if other CF tripods seem the same.
If you're on a budget but still want a good tripod I would highly recommend taking a look at this one. While it is not the highest of quality it is a great buy at it's price.

I've owned the 423PX2 for just a few weeks. I've had it out on the trail, doing some macro shots in the woods. It's very lightweight, making it a great travel tripod. And if you replace the center post with the shorter one, it will get very low to the ground. For a [$] tripod, the pistol grip is great. Those complaining of a lack of fine movement must have really weak hands, because I have no trouble using it with a 60D and a 70-200mm lens attached. But there are clearly some manufacturing compromises being made. So far, the sandbag hook screwed into the bottom of the center post has stripped threads (they're plastic threads). And the small safety lock on the tripod release lever has become very loose, just swinging back and forth. It still seems to serve its purpose as a safety, but it shouldn't be loose like that. The legs themselves are carbon fiber, which is why it's so light. But this also makes them a bit cumbersome to retract, as they don't slide easily. I've had to tighten one of the leg latches, but they seem to work okay.Overall, I get the feeling this tripod won't last long. However, for the money, it will be great if it lasts 2-3 years. The pistol grip mount makes it worth every penny – unless you have girly hands and can't hold it steady before locking it in place.

It's a great tripos, firm, lightweight and good load capabilities.
The only thing that I don't like is that it is too big to carry allways.

I'm very much a beginner at photography but I really appreciate this tripod. I purchased a much less costly one initially and it wasn't worth it! This one assembles easily and comes with a nice carrying case. It's light weight too. The best feature is the plate that attaches to your camera in advance so you can quickly put your camera into place to capture the shot you want. I looked at lots of options for a tripod and this one definitely seemed the best choice for the money.

I absolutely love this tripod. Light weight. Accurate. Tight. Too soon to tell you how tough it is yet, but I seems like it will be tough enough to last a long time.

I use it as a travel tripod - light, robust and reliable. Also the head is great. Sometimes it takes time to adjust it properly but otherwise works great. The material and construction feel pro so there is really no need going for twice as expensive branded tripod.

This is a great tripod, light, good height and sturdy. I used it with my Canon 50d and Tamron 70-300mm (both pretty heavy) and it held up well. Very much like the pistol grip.
Description says you can get as low as 10", haven't figured that out yet. Still a great deal.

The Sunpak Pro423PX2 tripod has got to be THE Best Value in a light-weight Carbon Fiber tripod with a Pistol Grip Head. Most other Carbon Fiber models by other manufacturers start around $250 and go up from there.
This is not a cheaply made tripod either. Will it hold a 10 lb camera rig? No, but it's not designed for that. This is an ideal photo tripod for DSLR users with average equipment (not huge telephot lenses). It has all the features you would want in a quality tripod. The legs and center column are made of 7-layer Carbon Fiber. It has a Magnesium chassis, neoprene "leg wraps", over-size Flip Lever leg locks that have ajustable tension, and the quick release plate is metal also.
The quick release is one of the best designs I have ever seen. Unlike older models I have delt with, this Sunpak design features a flip-up metal ring that allows you to attach the plate to the bottom of your camera by hand, so you don't need a quarter in your pocket to attach this one. Also, when you place your camera on the head you can put it in place in any of four positions, Not just one like many other tripod quick releases.
Now, as far as the Pistol-Grip head goes, WOW! This thing is fantastic. So quick to move into position and then just let go and it locks in place. You can't imagine how fast this thing is to use. I haven't found anything that I don't like about this product. Highly Recommended.

Comments about Sunpak 423PX2 Pistol Grip Carbon Fiber Tripod:
This light and compact tripod was purchased primarily for air travel. It is fairly sturdy, but not as stable as my heavier tripods which might be expected. I found the the pistol grip needed to be handled with two hands to effect easy transitions for pan and tilt. It is not as smooth as a fluid head which is another thing I suspected before buying it. For an inexpensive, light tripod it is acceptable value.

Comments about Sunpak 423PX2 Pistol Grip Carbon Fiber Tripod:
I bought this tripod because it was light, it was tall and it could handle a fair amount of weight. I'll probably replace the head at some point but the legs are very light, it goes up fairly high and it can handle the weight of some pretty big lenses. I also take the head off when I travel so the unit will fit in my carry on suitcase. Another thing, it goes very low as well. For me, it fit all the criteria of a good tripod.

Comments about Sunpak 423PX2 Pistol Grip Carbon Fiber Tripod:
This is a good tripod for the price but the head is too weak for my tele lens. I returned it for a Manfrotto 055PRO and 17lb head which is what I should have bought to begin with. No real complaint about the Sunpak, just too light for my work.

Prior to using the Sunpak - pistol grip, I had borrowed tripods with pistol grips from friends, and wanted one for it ease of use, but, found them a little expensive. The sunpak came within my budget. After receiving and using it, I found it easy to adjust and very sturdy. I am very pleased so far with my purchase.
The only problem I've had so far is the camera slipping or unscrewing from the quick release platform in the vertical position occasionally. Otherwise a good buy for me!

Comments about Sunpak 423PX2 Pistol Grip Carbon Fiber Tripod:
I bought this for my wife for a point and shoot camera. This is perfect for this kind of application. I mounted my canon 7D onto this tripod to see if it would be suitable for this heavy of a camera. The tripod data says it will hold up to 14.3 lbs. This is way too much weight for this tripod and the tripod is way to light weight for the heavier cameras. If you are buying this tripod for use with the bigger cameras, don't waste your time. The handle grip lever is pretty hard to squeeze, but other than that is is a great little, light weight tripod.

Comments about Sunpak 423PX2 Pistol Grip Carbon Fiber Tripod:
Good light weight tripod with very good stability as long as the camera + lens weight are minimal. Very hard to precisely adjust the ball head. Marginal support for long lenses.
