The 11.6" MacBook Air Notebook Computer from Apple is an extremely portable, stunningly designed laptop computer. Apple's engineers have leveraged the lessons they learned in designing the miniaturized iPad and applied them to the design of this 2.3-pound computer.
The original MacBook Air's slim profile was made possible due to the lack of an optical drive. This system eschews the hard drive as well -- opting instead for 64GB of flash storage -- resulting in an even slimmer profile. When closed, the computer is only 0.68" at its thickest point.
Flash storage doesn't just give you a lighter, thinner computer. It also allows for impressive battery life -- up to 5 hours of web browsing and an amazing 30 days of standby time!
The MacBook Air is housed in an aluminum unibody enclosure, which is as strong as it is light. Because it is cut from a solid block of aluminum, the housing is stronger than those found on laptops built via traditional means.
The computer's high-resolution display makes working on the go a breeze. At 11.6" in size, the 16:9 display feature a native resolution of 1366 x 768 -- greater than that of the 13.3" MacBook Pro! It features a glossy finish and a LED backlight for enhanced image quality and energy efficiency.
Computers in the MacBook Air's weight class are most often classified in the "netbook" category. Netbooks typically feature less-than-full-size keyboards, cramped trackpads, and low-powered CPUs. Not so with the MacBook Air. This computer features the same chiclet keyboard found on every computer in the MacBook series. It also boasts a large multi-touch glass trackpad, giving you full control over your computer -- without sacrificing ergonomics.
The computer is powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and boasts 2GB of RAM. Graphics are provided by an integrated nVIDIA GeForce 320M GPU with up to 256MB of shared DDR3 memory. The computer features all the amenities you expect on a Mac -- a FaceTime webcam, dual-band 802.11n AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR,and built-in stereo speakers.
iLife '11 has a complete suite of digital creativity applications. Easy enough for anyone to use, iLife will help you edit your home movies, organize digital photos, and compose original music.
The 64-bit OS features Time Machine backup, which automatically backs up system data to an external hard drive. It also features intuitive Cover Flow navigation, the powerful Spotlight search tool, and Quick Look document preview. You'll be able to use Boot Camp to run Windows on your Mac, or FaceTime to participate in video chats with iPhone, iPod touch, and Mac users.

I bought the Macbook Air for travel having strongly considered the ipad 2. I type well and don't enjoy the on screen touch. I have the 11" and it fits in a big purse. I backed up ALL my files from my Macbook Pro and was good to go. I love it and am so glad I chose this. The only downside I can predict is it's lack of one hand viewing instantly as I have to open the Air and be able to view the screen but then I have the Iphone IV for quick view situations. Also it is notable that my travel is for leisure and I am retired so I did not have lots of business files to transfer thus the smaller capacity.

Of the six Mac's that I've owned, this is the only one with an issue. The Super Drive will not play the Apple Training CD's from Peachpit Press, although the phone sales person assured me that I could use this on the road to earn Apple Certification on their software programs. If you are using this computer on the job site as a photographer be advised that the files size for Aperture is limited to about 4 gb per download: You need lots of memory cards so buy 8gb cards and save that 128gb card for your big mac at home. Although I could download huge files onto my 15" macbook pro, I cannot do the same size camera downloads to the macbook air. Apple phone sales assured me that the computer would function the same as the larger macbook and my imac 27". If a 13" macbook pro is not too heavy and large for your carry bag, I suggest that instead of a macbook air.
I can live with the battery life, (about 3 hours), the build and function of the macbook air is otherwise up to apple standards and most users of this computer will never need the apple pro certification training or large file downloads into Aperture.

Comments about Apple 11.6" MacBook Air Notebook Computer:
This thing is so thin and light! I carry it around everywhere to work, class, and even to parties to host as a DJ. I love the battery life and its bright screen! I have no issues at all! The only thing I wish it had was a little bit more memory and maybe a bigger hard drive. But it's OK I have a network external hard drive set up so everything is saved there. I would get another one next purchase will be a apple cinema display!

The phenomenon that is the MacBook Air. Thin, light, stylish yet very elegant. The ease with which I use this product amazes even a 6 year old. The sparkling display and the ever-entertaining sound provide all the pleasure one needs. The only discomfort to one's satisfaction- the storage space. The 64 GB space make's one thinks twice about downloading things from the internet. Other than that, this is a gem of a product!

Comments about Apple 11.6" MacBook Air Notebook Computer:
I mostly use it on the road or in my bed since I have a desk top Mac at home for other heavy use.
Mac book pro 13" was my choice before and I gave it to my son since he wanted one and I am happy with current choice.
I was happy with Mac book pro also but, it was bit heavy in my back pack.
You feel real weight difference between these two.
It feels much lighter than the actual weight difference
Also it is very quiet.
It wakes up incredibly fast and for most use it is very fast.
Only downside which I already knew is the font size which I have to enlarge often in order to read comfortably due to my aging eyesight.
And no keyboard light. But, it is not a must for me.
The battery runs about 3 hrs or so which is OK for me but some might find this as a big negative.
Other than that it is almost perfect computer for travel.
As a comparison, I have Samsung netbook which I also use to travel with but, web browsing could be slow and it froze often.
It did the job but was not enjoyable to use.
Until they come up with faster and lighter Mac air, this will be the computer I travel with for long time to come.

this machine is only for personal use. It's small, light and thin and hence easy to carry. The noise is low. I like the color. The only concern is the battery. It seems my mac has a little shorter battery hours than designed. As a whole, it's great. I will spend more time to test it in the future.
