If you have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 and you want to use a wider angle lens, or a neutral density filter (for slower shutter speeds for special effects), or maybe a circular polarizing filter (to remove glare), you'll need this DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter from Panasonic. This adapter has a 52mm thread and a finish that matches the camera. It's made from high-quality aluminum.

This is a stand off tube which allows mounting of an attachment lens to a Panasonic Lumix LX5 camera. Since the Lumix lens moves externally with zooming, independent of the attachment thread, space is needed to permit this motion without interference. This standoff tube permits that. Panasonic sells a wide angle attachment (X 0.75) for the LX5 which will mount by means of this attachment. Earlier attachment lenses sold for the FZ30 and other Lumix cameras will also work for the LX5 with this adapter, by using a step-up ring to allow for unequal thread sizes.
This makes the handy LX5 very useful as a super wide point & shoot camera for those times when you don't mind having more bulk in exchange for getting wide angle shots that approach very expensive digital SLR territory (16mm-17mm, as wide angle, 35mm camera equivalent!)

The reason I buy this lens adapter together with the 52mm MC lens protector is to protect the camera's lens. It serves the purpose. But the new MC lens become unprotected. That means it solves a problem and create a problem at the same time. It should come with a larger lens hood to protect the 52mm MC lens because the original lens hood is too small and become useless.
Another drawback after putting on the lens adapter is the camera become more bulky.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter:
Lens and filter adapter from Panasonic is solid and well made. It works as it should (threads are smooth), and actually makes the camera more comfortable to hold. My only niggle is that it adds a good bit of bulk to a compact camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter:
This item helps to make a fine camera an even better camera. For some time I have wanted a compact camera that accepts filters and this works well. It protects the lens, the lens barrel and allows me to shoot with a polarizer. It adds a bit to the overall size of the camera, but it is still compact. I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to use filters. I do not see myself purchasing the optional wide angle lens. The 24mm range of the lx5 is plenty wide.

It's a ring threaded on each end and it works fine.
The threads match the Lumix DMC-LX5 and the standard 52mm filters etc.

The 52mm size lets me use my old Nikon filter sets, especially my polarizer and soft-focus screens.

This is an indispensable item for enhancing image possibility and quality of my LX5. I added it to not only protect the lens but also to use filters (ND, polarizer, and mist) to get the effects desired.
I am planning on using this adapter to connect to a 35mm DOF adapter (a Red Rock Micro 72mm) to get a better video image. The fast 2.0 aperture and the light weight of LX5 seem to be a good candidate for an indie film maker.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter:
In order to operate the DMC-LX5 camera with any lens filters, it is necessary to use this adapter, so that the lens has room to zoom and focus. The problem is that the lens cap does not work with the adapter and filter screwed into the camera body! So there is no protection available for the filter when not in use, short of unscrewing the entire assembly and putting the filter back into a case.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter:
This is a adapter that you can use even without a auxiliary lens. Its finish matches the black LX5 perfectly, and not only protects the lens(I stopped using the lens cap), but it also makes the camera look like an vintage/modern rangefinder, especially if you have one of the auxiliary finders attached. The only problem is that it blocks a small part of the flash coverage, at the 24mm setting.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter:
Purchased this to be able to use my old 52mm filters to protect the beautiful leica lens on my lx5 plus be able to use the wide angle lens (which I just purchased and love). As mentioned in other reviews it is a bit of a pain to have to remove the lens ring/cap combination to put the adapter on plus you need to remove the adapter to take photos with the camera's flash or you get a shadow in corner. But being able to use the accessories makes it worthwhile.

Comments about Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter:
I purchased this at the same time as my Lumix LX-5 because I wanted to do two things: protect the delicate mechanism that extends the Leica zoom lens and add the ability to utilize 52 mm filters. I plan to keep the lens adapter permanently attached to the camera. I found that even with the adapter and filter attached the camera will still fit nicely into a Lowepro Edit 100 bag.
In case you're wondering the back of the adapter screws onto the camera body for a secure fit.
