Shooting all types of videos with the HD 170 and having an external mic helps a lot. Been liking this POV camera and finding more uses for it.

Works great. The cord is too short though.

Comments about Drift External Microphone for HD170:
The facility on the Drift 170 HD to attach an external microphone was one of the only reasons I bought the camera in the first place. I have a requirement to record audio from an intercom system in a noisy vehicle and the microphone allows me to do this perfectly, being small enough to place inside a helmet ear cup. The audio on the camera without the external mic is ok in some circumstances, but to really capture conversation or ambient noise, the external add on is the only way to go. The biggest drawback about it is that the rear door of the camera must be left open with the mic attached, allowing dust or water to penetrate. There is a silicone cover that can be placed over the rear of the camera to prevent dust ingress, but it is not included with the mic and has to be purchased seperately. Why the cover is not included is a mystery, as anyone using the external mic will need the cover! The cable length on the mic could be about 50 percent longer to allow placement of the camera slightly away from the mic input source. Otherwise, I would assess this to be an essential add on for the Drift 170 HD. Just make sure you get the cover at the same time...
