The LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 (1TB) is efficacious in producing quick data transfers from anywhere your laptop can go. The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface maxes out at a rate of 5 Gbps and is also compatible with the slower, USB 2.0 interface. The compact and resistant aluminum frame houses a fanless hard drive, which is bus-powered via USB cable. This liberates you from needing an AC power source.
The bus-powered mobile Rikiki fits in the palm of your hand and has a storage capacity of 1TB. The lightweight aluminum frame is recyclable and protects your drive from the inevitable wear, tear, shocks and bumps of mobile use. It also features software that can restore your data and settings if they're lost. As an extra measure of security, LaCie includes one year of Wuala Online storage, which affords a 10 GB capacity to back up content through the Internet storage site.
The included backup/restore and secondary storage software prevents your content from being lost and the rugged aluminum frame protects your device from damage. The Rikiki is secure, ultra-portable, compact and highly productive. It's also flexible. Not only is it compatible with USB 2.0 connectivity, but it works with several operating systems for both Mac and PC. Whether you need a Rikiki USB 3.0 (1TB) mobile hard drive for extra storage, backup or data creation; it certainly has the adaptability, mobility and performance to avail all of your needs and efforts.

Was so excited to finally have USB 3.0 for Mac. But as you'll see their are some issues. Now you can download a driver from Lacie so that you can attach these along with their PCI-E usb 3.0 cards or their usb 3.0 expresscard/34 to your Mac ... It's all a fairly good idea. Be warned ahead of time a few things!!! One, to be fair I did know this before I bought mine, is that their USB 3.0 devices are propietary in other words you have to use Lacie products and download their Mac driver from their website not compatible with non Lacie PCI-E cards or ExpressCards/34... no big deal just buy Lacie, they're most of the time good products and fairly competitive in price. However the bigger problem for me is issue number two, when I plugged in this new Lacie Rikki USB 3.0 hard drive to my mac via Lacie's USB 3.0 ExpressCard/34 it just beeped and no drive showed up. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling their driver. Same thing it just beeped and no drive showed up, I did know the drive worked ok because it plugged into my desktop just fine but I was really bummed about it not working on my Laptop as this was the main reason I bought it! [...]. It does mention inside the box on the back of a card, "Note: Mobile drives may require additional power. Visit ...(Lacie's website) to purchase a USB power cable for improved power." Lacie should Note: This is not visible from the outside of the box! and for their rep this cable is not included. This should also be something that sellers make a note of since they do not list this possible requirement anywhere in their description either. If I do get a free usb power sharing cable then I would probably throw in another star or 2 but this has been a little frustrating to deal with and I'd just like for people to know what they're getting. Other than that it seems to work fine although it is still brand new. We'll see if the usb power sharing cable allows me to use it via USB 3.0 on my laptop...it does work on USB 2.0

Comments about LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 (1TB):
pros: very small, super fast and no extra power cables to fumble around with.
cons: No cons,
improves: the industry needs to make an L shaped connector for USB cables, no improves needed for the LaCie Rikiki drive.
Drive is primarily used for personal use. I am in the military and am in environments that could exceed 130 degrees during summer, -10 in winter, lots of airborne debris and fine dust particles.

Comments about LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 (1TB):
I was torn between the USB2 & USB3 model but decided to go for the new one just because of USB3. There is not much to say as it's a simple ext drive w/o junk software. It comes with a short USB3.0 cable, but micro USB2.0 cable will work too (the same one used by WD). The only con is that when Windows is shutting down, the drive won't auto disconnect and spin down first. That means the drive will click the moment the power was cut off, not impressed. This is my only ext drive with such behavior. So I will just have to click the taskbar icon and disconnect it first manually. However, sometimes the Windows just won't let you do it. How stupid. If not for this issue, I would give it 5 *.

I'm very surprised how easy was the installation.I've plugged it in computer, and Rikki was ready to to work in a few moments.Transfer speed is fast and I like that little white LED light on a drive's side. It's amazingly lightweight, when it's out of the box.Very stylish design, cool aluminium surface.I'm very happy with my shopping experience in B&H,this is my second LaCie drive I've bought here. The first is LaCie media player with 2 GB storage. The quality is great!

selected the lacie drive because of familiarity with the included backup software. unfortunately the software crashes immediately when loaded. have entered trouble tickets and apart from a quick response back to reload, i have been waiting 2 weeks now without a response. the drive has worked flawlessly, and my experience with lacie drives has been excellent. would still recommend the drive, but assumes you aren't going to use any included software. disappointed with their (lack of) support.

Comments about LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 (1TB):
This is very nice new product from LaCie. the same size as older 500GB HD this one stores up to 1TB.
I use it as a Time Machine on my MacBookPro 15". It is surpassingly fast even when using it in USB 2 mode.
The only problem I found is when disconnecting the drive by moving the drive image to Trash. Drive dismounts OK, but if I put my Mac to sleep after the dismounting my MacBookPro does not wake up. Needs to be rebooted.
