Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite-AL Pro Quad-Interface External Hard Drive (1TB):
As a Mac user, this drive comes very highly recommended, and as such, I was extremely disappointed to discover it won't boot over Firewire (800 or 400)on my iMac (late 2007, version 7,1). It is only bootable via USB2.
The drive is fine as an external, but you are paying a premium for a FW800 enclosure and its functionality is limited. I won't use it for Time Machine for example now.
But my main purpose for this drive is for external storage, so it will suffice and I can use FW800 for that purpose. I'm just very disappointed and it limits its future flexibility as an enclosure. I wouldn't have bought the drive if I knew this before hand and B & H does not allow returns on computer hardware.
I did a lot of research before buying and no where on this site or Other World Computing's site is this mentioned.
There is an addendum in the manual that ships with the drive that has a table showing boot compatibility and it does in fact list my iMac as USB2 only, however, this compatibility table isn't in the online version so I had no way of knowing that prior to purchase.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite-AL Pro Quad-Interface External Hard Drive (1TB):
I am using this 1TB drive for photo and video editing purposes and it has run smoothly ever since I purchased the product. I would suggest OWC to anyone looking to buy drives, they work great.
The only down side I have found are its size but I knew I wouldn't be transferring to different stations a lot so I don't mind it at all.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite-AL Pro Quad-Interface External Hard Drive (1TB):
worked perfect, out of the box. lots of interface cables. only complaint is all the junk that came preloaded. put it on the CD that comes with it, and let me decide. i don't want all that stuff on my professional working drives. other than that, it seems a solid piece of gear.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite-AL Pro Quad-Interface External Hard Drive (1TB):
I use this drive for running pro tools sessions via firewire 800. I also have two other devices daisy chained via this device and all works smooth as i could ever want. Since i got it i havent had any disk errors in pro tools and my computer seems to run a lot easier as well.
- the only negative remark i could possibly make is that its not completely silent, which is expected.
its worth it. end of story.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite-AL Pro Quad-Interface External Hard Drive (1TB):
We've been using these at work for 5 years and haven't been let down. Because of that experience, these are the only hard drives I buy for personal use any more.
Works great with Macs (at work) and PC (at home). And with MacDrive for PC (not included), I can use mine on either.
