Comments about Porta Brace DCO-3R Large Mattebox/Follow Focus HD-SLR Camera Organizer:
Typical Porta Brace - first quality materials and construction. However, this case is too small for a rigged HDSLR. I knew it was tight from specifications, but turns out it is *way* too small, even though it is the largest in the new DSLR range.
Specifically, it will not accommodate a Redrock Micro matte box without forcing the fit to the point of risking damage to the equipment. I'll get some use out of this bag, but I know I will hate it forever because it is too small for my rig.
FYI - I am using an iDC System One rig with a 12" rail, a 5d MK II with battery grip, with a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS, the Redrock matte box, and a SmallHD monitor at rear.
The bag has a goofy trapezoidal footprint, which I did not pick up from specs. This kills interior space with nothing much gained on exterior dimensions. If the wide end of the bag had been 1/2" wider, it would have fit the Redrock, which has to be the most common matte box used on DSLRs. But the bag is also a bit short in length, by 2-3 inches. I would not recommend it to anyone using the Canon 70-200 along with a matte box.
Looks like I am going to have to transport the matte box in a separate hard case. And forget about wireless receivers and double system audio recorder -- all these things will not fit on a rigged camera in this bag. Buy this bag, and add an extra hour to your shooting day to rig up and tear down.
Of course, your mileage may vary. But I am smacking this product with a low rating because my configuration is extremely typical for HDSLR shooters, and this case fails me.
Look for something bigger in the Porta Brace line, if and when they offer something sized right for the job.
