Diamond Xtreme Sound Digital 7.1 USB External Sound Card
The Xtreme Sound Digital 7.1 USB External Sound Card from Diamond is a compact and convenient way to enhance music, movies, and games on your computer. The sound card is compliant with USB 2.0 and 1.1 for terrific compatibility. The card offers optical S/PDIF input and output connectors, compatible with Dolby digital 7.1 audio. Standard 3.5mm mic and line inputs are also provided for supporting analog sound sources.
Other features include 44.1/48kHz recording and playback support, USB wake-up support, and C-Media software with multi-channel positional 3D sound, EQ, speaker shifting, and more.

Great alternative solution when your laptop sound card breaks. Since I don't have a technical know how in replacing the sound card on my laptop, opening it, detaching it from a motherboard sounds like vey complicated....The great thing about this USB sound card is its so easy to install and yo don't need to open your laptop jst plug it in walah!! problem solved.

I attempted to use this to connect my macbook pro to my home entertainment center to do 5.1 audio monitoring via the SP/DIF connection for video production but was unsuccessful. I will admit that perhaps it may be user error. But regardless, option B was to hook up individual speakers via the RCA inputs but there are not 6 outputs, only 4. They double up the front and back speaker outputs.
