The Velbon PHD-52Q Magnesium 4-Way Panhead offers independent 4-way pan and tilt motion for forward and back tilt, as well as left and right tilt(with handles that can be operated left- or right-handed). There's also a sliding lockable quick-release camera platform, sturdy magnesium alloy construction, and 1/4" and 3/8" thread connections. This smooth panhead will support up to 13.2 lbs (5.98 kg) and weighs only 1.16 lbs (530 g). A magnesium QB-62 quick shoe is included.

Large knobs on the handle make them easy to tighten or loosen.

There is a single control arm for the pan and tilt. The pan unlocks before the tilt unlocks. Practice with it some to get used to it.

this head is a great match for my velbon carmagne 640 carbon fiber tripod that i've had for at least 15 years and works perfect. with this head i was at first a little muffed to find the tilt and pan are both controlled with the long handle. however, with experimentation i found that by controlling the lock down tension it's pretty easy to tilt and pan independently since it's not a true ball joint. otherwise, it attaches easily and firmly and all movements are silky smooth and when everything's tightened down there is zero jiggle. the handles have nice quality feel. flawless finish and everything else about the head says top quality. i would buy it again.
