Comments about Velbon FHD-52Q 2-Way Fluid Video Panhead:
I am using this head to support a pair of 15x56 binoculars and it easily handles the load. Head is fairly compact and very smooth. I was anticipating being able to lock and unlock the head by twisting the handle; however, locking/unlocking the unit is only done by turning the knob on the opposite side. It's not a big deal and the knob works great, but I was just expecting something different. Overall, I think this head will do exactly what I want without breaking the bank. Time will tell if it holds up over a large range of temperatures and long hikes, but so far it looks the part.

Comments about Velbon FHD-52Q 2-Way Fluid Video Panhead:
I was looking for a pair of cost effective fluid heads. I looked through the website,[...] I was told the Velban's were great, and made out of Magnesium. plus they are very cost effective.I decided to save a few dollars over the brand name heads and try them. What a mistake.First, these heads are 100% plastic except for the screws [which I'm guessing is the magnesium they claim]. Not the dense rigid kind of plastic that SLIK uses mind you, the cheap, brittle kind that razor cartridges are packed it. Second, they leak. The seals on both of these were leaking enough that I had oil on my shirt just from handling them and taking them out of the box. I live in California where it gets 110 in August/September, I can't even imagine how these would hold up.Third, they can barely handle a Canon T3 with a prime lens. I put my DSL on one of them and tightened it for all I was worth, 2 hours later it had dipped 2 inches just from the weight of the camera [which is just over a pound]. [...] I could kick myself.

Pretty smooth action for the price - watch out for the 1/4" screw thread - I didn't pay closer attention and now have to purchase a 3/8" to 1/4" adaptor to fit this to my Manfrotto tripod legs which sets me back another 25 bucks!

Comments about Velbon FHD-52Q 2-Way Fluid Video Panhead:
I chose this product (FHD-52Q Magnesium 2-Way Fluid Video Panhead by Velbon) to use on a homemade modular dolly system consisting of roller blade wheels and 3/4 inch PVC pipe fittings. This fluid head works well, very smooth, easy to attach and configure. I am using this to mount a Sony palm sized camcorder on the dolly. I plan to eventually make a 'how to' on this system which will show it all in action. I have nothing negative to say about this product. It does what I expect it to do and does it well. I would recommend this head for anyone working with small cameras that want steady fluid pans and tilts. Add a rubber band to the lever and you can pull your pan or tilt into a even smoother ride. Hope this helps.
