I use the AC9 along with the AC 3 Zone Controller on a Mini TT1. A PW Flex TT5 is mounted on one of my Alien Bs with AC9 plugged into both. One of my Canon cameras has the Mini TT1 on the hot shoe with the AC3 zone controller on top. My flash bracket has a Flex TT5 with a Canon 580 EXII or 430 EX II. I set the AC3 to Auto (TTL) for the Canon Flash and dial down the exposure 1 to 2 stops. This is used for fill, only as needed. The Alien Bs output is also controlled by the AC3 through the Flex TT5 through the AC9, usually set to manual, even though there are some neat features in Auto mode that maintain flash output when the F stop changes. The Alien Bs are powerful enough to to overcome direct sunlight even when shooting through soft boxes or umbrellas. I meter the Alien B output and use the on camera flash for a fill as needed. The AC3 makes it really easy to adjust the power for both. I have found the combination extremely reliable and consistent, far more than using TTL on remote, off camera, Canon flashes.

Comments about PocketWizard AC9 AlienBees Adapter for Canon:
The only thing with this adapter is that you must start everything in the right series or it does not want to connect. Outside of that it's solid and works like a charm.
Only a 4 star because I have to do a "calibration" shot in order to set the changes from my zone controller to the strobe.

I use the product along with a TT1 and Flex TT5 and an Alienbee along with beautydish. I love not having to have at sync cables and I love how securely they fit into the bee (just like a telephone jack). I was sick of crawling up my stepping stool or lowering the boom to adjust power. This fixes that when using the AC3!!! Very happy with it, the only reason I have it a 4 is because it is a little pricey for what it is. Also, I've had issues with the hypersync but I don't blame the AC9 for that.

A fried loaned me a couple of WhiteLighting Ultra 600 strobes. They are not even produced anymore but work perfectly. I use MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 with my 580EX Canon lights. This unit slips on the FlexTT5 and plugs into the strobe with a common telephone cable.
It was as simple to control the light with the AC3 atop my camera. and worked without a hitch. With this setup you can use high speed sync as well.

The AC9 coupled to my TT5 gives me the flexibility to control my light source when shooting OCF on location. Next step will be to add an AC3 for studio work.

The AC9 works like a charm, but pair it up with the AC3 for the complete package; it really works.

This little number, while grossly overpriced, serves its purpose perfectly. At a wedding reception I set up my two AB 800s on either side of the hall, connect each to a Flex TT5 with an AC9 attached, and then shoot away with plenty of light.
Do note that you need to plug a mini jack cord or adaptor into the sync hole on the back of your Alien Bee in order to turn off the flash sync. Otherwise, even with the AC9 and a Flex TT5 plugged in, your Alien Bee will be triggered by other flashes in the room (annoying at a wedding reception where flashes are going off all over).

Great addition to the MiniTT1, FlexTT5, AC3 system. The AC9 and the AC3 ZoneController breath new life and flexibility for on-location work with my X3200 strobes. Neat system, small, low price, and functions great.

Comments about PocketWizard AC9 AlienBees Adapter for Canon:
Combine this with the AC3 and you've got yourself a winning combo! I love it. You can easily change the settings in the PocketWizard Utility to have the unit do different things with modeling light. As it comes, the modeling light changes value as you change the power of the strobe. I already had the AC3 that I use with speedlites. I purchased a couple Alienbees and AC9s just because they were meant to work with my existing equipment. Now, I can use my speedlites in combination with the Alienbees and change the power of three different groups (any number of lights) from the top of my camera! Very cool. I was originally looking at the Bowens monolights, but the AC9 sealed the deal for me and I went with the Alienbees. I'm happy I did. Being able to control monolights and speedlites from one simple on camera controller is great!
