Benro C48F Classic Carbon Fiber Monopod
When you're shooting with a telephoto or in low light and moving too fast to set up a tripod (or you just want to travel light), the Benro C48F Classic Carbon Fiber Monopod may be your new best friend.
This carbon fiber support reaches a height of 5.28' (1.61 m), closes down to 1.72' (52.5 cm), and supports 44 lbs (20 kg). It only weighs 1.3 lbs (0.6 kg), so you'll barely know you're carrying it. Opening and closing the 4 sections is quick and easy with the flip lever lock design, and high elasticity rubber feet prevent slipping (meaning less fatigue for you in the long run).
An attached wrist strap and a closed foam grip give you a secure hold on the monopod (and your camera!), and the grip insulates your hands from the aluminum on cold days. The head plate has a reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw.

We use this mostly for collecting footage during events, parties etc. It is easy to set up and deploy, adds very little weight to the overall camera. Locks up nice and stable, have not had any problems with it yet.

It's got girth. Very steady platform to shoot from. I'm using a Canon 1D MkIV and Canon 500/f4L IS lens cradled in a Wimberely head on this monopod. It is a huge improvement over using a convertible leg off of a tripod, which is what I was using previously. No flexing at all, even fully extended.
It's no replacement for a tripod, but it is far more portable and makes lugging a big lens around a lot easier.
I've only used it for birding, and intend to use it for motor sports and other wildlife as well. It works well enough for birds in flight because it extends to a good height while remaining stiff, but as with any stationary support system has limitations while tracking overhead.
I find the clamps easy and quick to deal with. Because the shaft diameter is so large on this monopod, the clamps don't add that much to the size. They do add to the weight though. It is not light weight, but I find it a perfect match for the big lens and head. The foot is also a bonus, and actually one of the reasons I purchased this monopod over others.
Big bang for the buck. I would not recommend this size monopod for lenses much smaller than the Canon 300f/2.8L IS. It is overkill for a small lens.
I can't find any faults with it. I'm very happy with the purchase.
