The black Hand Strap E2 from Canon is designed to add support and comfort to hand-holding a Canon DSLR camera. The strap attaches to the eyelets at the sides of the camera. The wide palm pad makes using your camera more comfortable. It also comes with a removable tripod socket adapter that can be used instead of threading one side of the strap through an eyelet. In that case, the strap attaches to one eyelet and the tripod socket of your camera. In many instances, this may provide increased ergonomic comfort and balance to your camera.

I had first seen the hand strap while watching a CreativeLive (live classroom stream) event and I had never thought of using a hand strap before that. I noticed the photographer using it and thought I'd try it for myself. To start things off, I use the strap as an extra layer of protection, NOT as a means to constantly support the weight of my camera. For that I absolutely swear by BlackRapid (sold here on B&H!) which has revolutionized the way I carry my camera. The purpose of the Canon hand strap for me is extra protection (not trying to sound like a broken record) for many different situations: when I'm not wearing my BlackRapid, in a crowded area where my camera can easily be knocked around, hanging out of a moving vehicle, leaning over an edge, etc.
The strap is very comfortable to wear, quality seems up to par with Canon's standards and I have experienced zero chaffing. I should also mention I use this strap with a Canon battery grip on my 7D, so I do not need to use the tripod mount screw attachment. Even though the details did not list the 7D as compatible, with a battery grip it most certainly is (I asked B&H's Live Chat before purchasing to make sure. They're fantastic to use for those types of questions!).
The hand strap has held up to the test (was photographing snowboarding and had my lens was bumped, my hand lost grip but the strap was there securing the camera to my hand) and I've already recommended it to a number of photography friends.
One quick note on fitting the strap; you certainly need to find your "happy place" with the strap. With the most comfortably-tightened position, my Men's size-Large hands were unable to properly use the shutter click wheel with my index finger. I had to loosen it slightly to where I was able to freely adjust the click wheel.
A second note, there is a quick release adjustment piece that allows for, well, quick adjustments. Very helpful if you anywhere near frozen tundras similar to Minnesota and are wearing gloves, you can simply and quickly adjust for them. I haven't come close to running out of adjustment room wearing Large gloves.
On a last note (I promise) I still had full access to the buttons on the battery grip while in portrait mode. Just making sure I'm covering all the bases here!
Hopefully this is enough information to help you make a decision in protection of your hefty photography investment!

This is just like every other hand strap other than one essential/critical feature...the tripod screw mount. IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY IF YOU EVER USE YOUR TRIPOD.

I generally run with a Black Rapid strap with my gripped 5DMKII. But when I just want to take some snaps here and there, and I don't want the hassle of re-attaching the body to my Black Rapid strap, this is there the Canon hand strap comes to play! Comfortable, durable and also stabilizes the camera! Highly Recommended!

I use the hand straps instead of a camera strap, I like the security of having It with the hassle of the camera strap in the studio. I have had one on my other two bodies along with the battery grips is very secure system.

I was excited to get this strap for my new 5D Mark II, but only used it once. It was awkward and didn't seem to work well with my battery grip/vertical shutter release. I also did not like how it screwed in to the bottom of the camera, making it nearly impossible to set the camera down on a flat surface without it falling over!

I use the hand strap on my Canon 5D and 50D cameras. It is so nice to relax the hand while shooting.

I use the Hand Strap with a camera sling over the chest. The Hand strap allows you to grab the camera with your right hand and start shooting without the need of the left hand. I find this ability very convenient.
However, the hand strap and the sling make it difficult to place the camera inside a fitted camera case.

I use this when I'm not on the tripod. It allows me to shoot for longer without the stress on my wrist. The only thing I wish was that it had a quick release for the where it attaches to the camera strap mount.

I love that the strap is adjustable as well as attaches with neck strap so you dont need to switch them or choose. The hand strap is very quick & easy. It is very comfortable and natural to take pictures with it attached. It helps take a lot of weight directly off your hand/wrist. Before using the hand strap the pain I get in my hand/wrist would greatly intesify, with the hand strap it helps me get thru the night and continue doing what I love more!

Hate the neck strap...so bought the hand strap. Only one draw back - does not sit flat. You have to lay your camera down. For me it is worth it. I just have to remember!

The strap does help a lot in holding the camera securely with less strain on the hand and fingers. It is adjustable to fit most hands. Mine is on the small side so I have to shorten it to the limit to make it snug tight. The soft pad makes comfortable even when it is tight. The shoulder strap can be still be used if wanted. Nice prodcut.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):
After using the E1 hand strap for some time I got so used to it that I really missed it every time I was shooting without it. The problem is that the E1 is designed for using with the EOS 1D or with a Battery Grip. This hand strap is for when you don't have neither of those and it is as comfortable and useful as the E1. Highly recommended.

Im so glad i bought this strap, i personally don't like having the long one that games with the camera, it always gets on the way; the quality if this strap is pretty good and it makes you camera look better(if that matters to you). it is also strong and once you tight it down well the base plate won't move at all.

The strap adds relaxed control of the camera body while in motion. Unlike a conventional neck strap that requires a hand to stabalize the camera at body center, the hand strap gives you more range and flexibility.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):
From the moment I got my first DSLR and started shooting, I knew that the Canon neckstrap and I would part ways. I hated the chafing on my neck, and the way the camera tilted down when I had a heavier lens on. Then I came across this, which had just been released to replace the older Canon handstrap, and knew that it would be a good fit. I now use it on a Canon T2i with the BG-E8 battery grip attached.
The handstrap tightens well to a perfect fit on anyone's hand. I can let the camera hang down without any weight on my neck. The bottom screw is threaded and I can easily add my quick-release plate for my tripod.
The only drawback of this design is that it hinders my thumb when I'm trying to access buttons on the back of the camera. This occurs when the strap is tightened against your hand. You can leave the strap loose and give you more freedom, but I'd rather not. I would really like to try the Nikon handstrap as it seems to conform to how people actually hold their cameras.
