The Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon DSLR is the premier Metz shoe mount flash designed to be compatible with all digital Nikon SLR cameras. To better facilitate compatibility with current and future cameras, this flash features a built-in USB port that allows for future firmware updates via the internet. Advanced features include a secondary reflector with 3 light output ratios, built-in reflector card for soft light, a permanent "modeling" light for checking the photo, and a high quality metal base that allows quick and easy attachment to the camera.
The 58 AF-2 has evaluative pre-flash and is designed to fully support a Nikon digital SLR camera's TTL system. The flash also features an auto zoom head from 24-105mm that can be set to match the camera's sensor, a full bounce and swivel head (with a fully swiveling reflector system which also contains a flip-out reflector card and a diffuser), a built-in wide angle diffuser for 12mm coverage, and in addition, full manual control with 12 variable power output levels. If the camera has a built-in flash, the mecablitz 58 AF-2 can also be employed wirelessly in the system, even in servo mode.

I have only had the unit a few weeks, but it has done everything I wanted. it syncronized with my Nikon D300s without any problems. I have used it alone and as fill flash with a one a 1.0 darkening and everything worked flawlessly.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon DSLR:
This unit feels as solid as its performance is. I am a light user of flashes and I enjoy this one. I use Nikon D7000 and it fully interfaces easily. I can trigger the flash off camera without a cord. Overall, a nice unit. Reading the manual is a bit difficult at first and getting used to the menu on the back of the flash is not for the faint-hearted...it takes a bit of a learning curve. At least for me, it did.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon DSLR:
I have always used Nikkor Lenses with my Nikon Cameras and Canon Lenses with my Canon cameras but I have always loved Metz flash units. From my first 60CT4 with a Mamiya 645 Pro to my 58 AF-1 with my Canon EOS 1Ds mkII and my 58 AF-2 with my new Nikon. They seem to have a warmer light which looks nice with people pictures

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon DSLR:
I go back to the Honeywell strobe days with 510 volt batteries. I had Sunpack when fill flash came out Vivitarws 283. This is my 2nd Metz and had very good results with the first and still have it. This make the most novice person a pro.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon DSLR:
Used it for the first time for a 5 hour event. Good power and lighting. I did notice it shot blue for a few flashes so I'm not sure if i had a setting wrong for a moment. The recycle time is a little slow when I tried alkaline and NiMH rechargeable batteries. Might have to experiment more with the best batteries to use with this unit. I used a Demb reflector with it. Pointed my flash up at 90 degrees and swiveled to have the flash the narrow way.
