The D-M38 Micro Component System from Denon is an elegant, compact audio system that delivers surprisingly big sound and is ideal for a bedroom, home office or even a college dorm room. The built-in AM/FM tuner allows for 40 presets, and the disc player accommodates CD, CD-R and CD-RW with playback capability for MP3 and WMA files.
The USB port allows for a direct connection of your iPod, so you can bypass the iPod's internal D/A converter and send signals straight to the audiophile-grade D/A converters of the D-M38 for richer, more detailed sound. The unit offers dual power transformers for a solid power supply and features a power output of 30 watts per channel, as well as two auxiliary inputs that let you connect additional components like a DVD player or gaming system.
The D-M38 also offers two 2-way speakers, each with a dual-layer woofer that resists flexing to provide you with deep, accurate bass and a clean midrange without coloration. Soft dome tweeters allow for smooth highs with detail and clarity. The speakers and CD receiver have large terminals to accommodate high-grade speaker wire.
In addition to its sonic prowess, the system has several features for ease of use. The line-dot matrix display makes it easy to set the timer functions, and it also includes a remote control handset with an intuitive button layout for quick finger movement -- buttons are colored according to basic function for seamless operation. All in all the D-M38 is built to provide you with versatile playback capabilities, pristine audio reproduction and easy operation -- from a compact yet sophisticated 2-channel system.

Comments about Denon D-M38 Micro Component System:
This D-M38 system is doing everything I hoped for and more. Over the past 40 years, I've had big component systems and mini-systems and this one is very impressive, especially for the price.
I think Denon either fixed problems that show up in some reviews or something about those setups (cords, electrical interference, etc) maybe caused problems. Some say there is noise at low volume, noticed mostly with headphones when treble or bass adjustment used instead of the flat "Source Direct" setting. I get no noise whatsoever with speakers and as a test with headphones on a quiet song, only a barely audible amount, and my hearing is perfectly fine. So, a total non-issue for me and most people I think. Also, some say volume jumps too much from one number to the next, no problem with this either for me.
The only thing I've read before that should be fixed, is the volume control turns too hard, very odd. Someone said it loosens up over time, hope so but not a huge issue.
I thought these little speakers would never have enough bass or handle loud music when I first unpacked them. I mostly listen to acoustic music, Folk-rock, Americana and occasionally Rock and Jazz. First song I put on in my living room totally blew me away, the bass and overall tone is incredible from these little things! Must be some new technology I guess. Solid bass, plenty of midrange and treble with no distortion. And this is without the bass or volume anywhere near all the way up. I could never imagine a need for a separate bass sub woofer but it has a jack for one.
If you don't want that much bass, the bass, treble and balance is easily adjusted on either the unit itself or by remote, not actual separate knobs which is ideal, but good enough and better than those systems with only some preset EQ choices.
I don't use an iPod or iPhone but a nice unexpected feature is how I can use the "Portable In" jack on front with my Macbook Air. I connected my Macbook headphone jack to this with a mini-plug cord, so anything on the computer can be played through this system, songs on YouTube, iTunes, etc, and sounds great.
Another great feature is the RCA jack inputs allow input from TV audio output jacks, so this works perfect as a sound system for TV and DVDs, handles major wall shaking movie bass perfectly and music DVDs sound awesome. Major bang for your buck with this system!

Comments about Denon D-M38 Micro Component System:
I like clear sound without a lot of fuss and this product delivers. It was easy to set up, fits nicely in my small apartment, and plays CDs, MP3s, and the radio reliably and without any distortion. The only thing missing is a multiple-CD deck.
