The Boxee Box from D-Link is a digital media player that bridges the gap between digital media and your HDTV. Supporting 1080p output via HDMI, the oddly-shaped device lets you stream media from your computer or the Internet via 802.11n Wi-Fi or a standard Ethernet interface for playback on your TV. It also features USB 2.0 ports and an SD card slot, making it easy to add local storage.
The Boxee Box supports playback of video, music, and photos. It is capable of playing almost any file, thanks to support for a wide range of container and codec formats. It also lets you play video clips from many popular websites, thanks to a wealth of available modules -- some of which are included with the software, and others which can be downloaded from within the Boxee interface.
The Boxee Box also supports Netflix streaming. If you're already a Netflix subscriber you are undoubtedly familiar with their streaming service. For the uninitiated, you'll be happy to know that Netflix houses a library tens of thousands of titles -- many in HD -- that can be watched instantly over the Internet. The Boxee Box brings these to your HDTV -- allowing you to watch them from the comfort of your favorite armchair or couch. A Netflix subscription is required, of course. But at $7.99 a month, it's not much more than the cost of a venti latte.
Although it isn't available yet, Boxee has pledged to add support for Hulu+. Like Netflix, Hulu+ is a premium service -- it will also cost you about eight dollars each month. Hulu+ gives you access to current episodes of many popular TV shows, as well as older shows, movies, and more.
There are currently a slew of downloadable apps to feed Internet video to the device -- including Funny or Die, College Humor, MTV, Digg, MLB.tv, and others. You'll be able to control all aspects of the device using the included remote control. The remote features standard play back controls as well as a built-in QWERTY keyboard -- making it an excellent choice for searching the web for video.
For some folks, Boxee will provide all of the media that they desire -- making it possible to cut out the monthly cable bill. This isn't limited to fans of scripted TV alone -- baseball fans will be delighted to discover that they can purchase a season-long subscription to the Internet video MLB.tv service and watch it all on an HDTV via the Boxee Box!

Comments about D-Link Boxee Box Digital Media Player:
Awesome network player that actually does what it claims. I have dozens of movies on a network server and the Boxee finds them and presents them in a coverart gallery with IMDB ratings and movie descriptions. It's a pleasure to sit down and browse watching options with the Boxee.
Make sure you update the firmware when you get on line and make sure your router security is setup the Way Boxee wants it or you will not get on line. Remember: (open wep).
Love the simplicity in the navigation and the apps etc...but i just wanted it for movies and it nails that. Streams big MKV video over wifi with no stutter or defects.
Video pause and play controls work great and the fact it remembers the stop positions on video is great for when my kids watch half of this and half of that and always want to resume later.

Comments about D-Link Boxee Box Digital Media Player:
It is a great addition to any high tech home. Every family member can find apps that are interesting for their specific interests and needs.
There are two negatives, one being the remote doubling as a keyboard when you are browsing the net. You definitely need a backlit mini keypad. My second complaint is the missing instructions in form of a basic manual on-line or off-line. Besides those two concerns, boxes is a great little machine.

Comments about D-Link Boxee Box Digital Media Player:
I bought this unit with the intention of it being able to do all things for all people, streaming photos, video, music and so on without the need to be welded to a particular ecosystem. In this regard it does a fantastic job, handling any media source I can throw at it from either my iMac or my Ubuntu file server. An excellent GUI and Full HD are icing on the cake.

Comments about D-Link Boxee Box Digital Media Player:
I originally purchased the Boxee Box to stream my digital media from my home network server to my HDTV.
Boxee Box does a flawless job of streaming my media 802.11n wirelessly from any of my network shares, server or otherwise!
From my tests Boxee Box also plays virtually any media file format known to mankind.
But what really rocks is it's Internet streaming capabilities using additional App's like Navi-X.
This device far surpasses any of my original expectations and offers many more features than I was even aware of.
Only slight Con I have is with the Remote Control QWERTY Keyboard, it's not backlit and is difficult to use watching media at night or in low level lighting. I solved this minor problem by purchasing a "Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard Mouse-pad" it has a fully backlit keyboard plus a great built in mouse-pad.

Comments about D-Link Boxee Box Digital Media Player:
[...]. Boxee came with an HDMI cable so I did not need to buy any accessories. Setup was smooth and easy. It plays almost all the movies and videos I have with the exception of just one .mov clip type but I am not too concerned about that one. Boxee is loaded with lots of apps for accessing web content of which I am only interested in YouTube, and at first that app did not work. A few days after I installed Boxee an SW update arrived for it and now YouTube works. Overall Boxee gives me all the functionality I was looking for with no trouble. And I like the looks of it, too.

Comments about D-Link Boxee Box Digital Media Player:
Having previously tried the the WD Media Streamer and Apple TV I can confidently say the Boxee is the king. Easy setup, very user-friendly UI, easy navigation and it picked up all my media and organized in such a way that even my wife can follow with zero guidance, very slick! My only gripe is the remote...nice and simple but too simple for my taste; and the keyboard navigation can be a little tricky at first but I got used to it eventually. Great product, highly recommended!

A very elegant and simple to use device to allow streaming of videos from a NAS or external harddrive.
The user interface is friendly and inviting...great for the non-tech family members.
The remote control is a nice touch. A few simple buttons on one side, and a keyboard on the other.
The firmware still has some growing pains, but it's getting there. The lettering on the remote keyboard could be a little brighter.
I have mine wired, but hear that the wireless can be hit or miss.

I have the WDTVLIVE and althoug it works well the GUI just doesn't cut it. I found the same issue with other media streamers. The GUI on the Boxee rocks and it has played everyfile I have thrown at it so far. Great product. Left off a star as not all the apps are working yet but 90 percent are.

I'm still learning all this can do but it does everything just fine. I owned the apple tv for one day and returned it. This is so much better.
