Giottos' VGR9254-S2C Aluminum Tripod/Monopod W/QR Ballhead boldly goes forth exploring a new frontier that any photographer will cheer--designing a solid professional tripod that folds down to a manageable size. This aluminum support will extend to 5.04' (1.53 m), but its minimum working height is little more than a foot--16.3" (41.4 cm), and it folds down to 16.5" (41.9 cm). Although it weighs just 3.3 lbs (1.49 kg), it can support up to 8.8 lbs (4 kg). The included quick-release ballhead has bubble levels and is Arca-compatible.
Plus, one leg of the tripod combined with the center column converts to a monopod that extends to 5.24' (1.6 m) and collapses to 31.4" (79.75 cm). The 4 tripod leg sections use a quick twist-lock design, and the tripod accepts optional accessory spiked feet for use on rough terrain.

Comments about Giottos VGR9254-S2C Aluminum Tripod/Monopod W/QR Ballhead:
I'm glad I did my research before coming across this Giottos. I was looking at Manfrotto's and Oben's and couldn't quite find the right tripod which collapsed under 20" and would still get tall enough not to have me hunched over when fully extended. The build quality is excellent. I really like the twist lock legs. You can extend and retract all three leg sections very easily. The inverted legs when folding makes no difference to me, but this is what allows it to get so compact. The head is a little on the small size, physically, but still holds very solid (70-300mm) with no concerns. I think the head has to be small b/c the legs fold around it. I love the arca swiss syle mount; you can't get much sturdier than that. The head's knobs have a very good smooth feel. Bubble levels are a plus. I haven't used it as a monopod yet, but I could see where it would come in handy to have the option to do both. The case that comes with the tripod is top notch, very durable and thick material. They really pack a lot of tripod in for the money.

Comments about Giottos VGR9254-S2C Aluminum Tripod/Monopod W/QR Ballhead:
I used to own the basic Manfrotto tripod with ball head for around the same price as this one. I sold it due to its size, weight, and inefficiency when setting up. Got the Giotto instead. Have yet to look back. It's small, quick to set up, easy to use, lightweight, and sturdy.
