The kit is handy for any situations in which you want to embed audio into an SDI stream and you don't have access to a wall plug, such as ENG and EFP scenarios. The audio can come from a device such as a field audio mixer or a small digital audio recorder. The video (as either SD or HD-SDI) could come from a camera or a portable video recorder/player device with SDI output. The Mini Converter accepts up to four channels of analog audio or up to eight channels of digital AES/EBU audio, performs either sample-rate conversion or analog-to-digital conversion, and embeds the channels into the SDI video stream. This output can then be recorded or transmitted as an embedded SDI signal.
The Switronix cable accepts a battery's Powertap output and supplies regulated 12V power to the Blackmagic Mini Converter, enabling its use in the field. The Blackmagic Mini Converter features a cable tie point that secures the power supply connection, thus preventing an accidental power disruption.
