The bi-directional Mini Converter features 10-bit optical fiber input/output with LC type connections. It's capable of switching between SD, HD, and 3G SDI video signals. By facilitating battery power to the Blackmagic Optical Fiber converter, this kit opens up the possibility of sending the HD-SDI or SD-SDI output of a camera to a production truck or studio over an extremely long optical fiber cable. Forget sub-1000 ft (sub-305 m) SDI cable runs; optical fiber allows you to send a video signal on journeys up to 147,000 ft (44,805 m) in SD and up to 82,000 ft (24,993 m) for converted 3Gb/s SDI.
The kit's Switronix cable accepts a battery's Powertap output and supplies regulated 12V power to the Blackmagic Mini Converter, enabling its use in the field. The cable also features an inline female Powertap output (unregulated 11-17V DC power) for powering an accessory such as an on-camera LED light with a corresponding power input. The Blackmagic Mini Converter features a cable tie point that secures the power supply connection, thus preventing an accidental power disruption.
