One of the most appealing aspects of small mirrorless cameras like the Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 is the availability of a wide range of interchangeable lenses, including non-Sony lenses. This Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera makes it possible to mount a Nikon lens to your NEX-3 or NEX-5 camera with a precision mechanical adapter. Such an adapter does not transfer functions such as auto focus from the camera to the lens, so all lens operations (focus, aperture control) are manual.

Fits, but poor design, leaving Nikon lenses oriented sideways rather properly oriented. Returned.

Comments about Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera:
This a great product which very much enchances the value of the Sony NEX. Easy to use and very sturdy with a feeling of high quality construction. No auto focus or aperature but at this price that is not expected or a problem. Very happy with the adapter.

Comments about Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera:
This very simple adaptor allows you to screw a Nikkor lens onto the front of a NEX 20 video camera. It's weakness is also it's best feature, the lens you attach is fully manual as autofocus and auto exposure functions usually found on typical video cameras do not function on the Nikon lenses. As a still photographer for many years I find the auto features of most video cameras to be extremely annoying and hard to defeat at times to get what I want from the camera. A "normal" 50mm 1.4 35mm camera lens becomes an excellent portrait/interview lens with shallow depth of field and extremely fast compared to the kit zoom lens in low light situations. A 60mm Macro becomes a fabulous close up lens. This is a very useful tool to recycle old Nikkor lenses at a reasonable price.

Comments about Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera:
As others here have indicated you MUST set the Sony NEX camera to fire the shutter WITHOUT a LENS. If you don't you will receive the error that the last reviewer experienced, which is that the camera does not recognize the lens.
I'm looking forward to using my Nikon auto lenses, but note that you can't control the aperature on these. Only the shutter speed. I opted out of buyin other adapters which were priced extraordinarily high, but offer aperature control

Comments about Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera:
I bought and received the adapter. It fits nicely to the NEX 5 (using my various Nikon lenses. Unfortunately, NEX 5 doesn't recognize it - "cannot recognize lens. Attach it properly". Not sure how to correct this issue and there is no instructions on how to configure NEX 5 to over write this.

Comments about Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera:
After buying the NEX5 and loving it (I am a long-time Leica and Nikon owner), I discovered this adapter by Bower. What a find! Now my entire collection of high-end Nikkor lenses can be trained to focus images on the incredible new Sony sensor. The photos, especially from my macro and long tele lenses, are exceptional. Well worth the relatively small investment. The adapter is sturdy and of professional grade material. And while I still use my D2, I love the high quality images on the NEX, combined with my Nikkor lenses, and for a fraction of the weight and size. Very much recommend.

This is a very nicely made and finished adapter. It will accept even older Nikkor lenses with raised ridge. Be sure to set the NEX to fire without lens. Easy to get excellent results.

Comments about Bower ABNEXN Adapter for Nikon Lens to Sony NEX Camera:
I bought this adapter for my Sony NEX VG10 camcorder since I shoot with Nikon. This adapter works great for what it's intended for; Nikon lenses with aperture rings. You can use it with auto lenses but you won't be able to control the aperture settings. It'll be like having your lens stuck at F11 or so (guesstimate). I haven't thoroughly tested it because, I'm fine using it with my manual lenses.
For the price it's definitely worth it for indie and beginning filmmakers/photographers that want a shallower depth-of-field, and like the prime lens shooting styles. In other words, if you're comfortable with full manual shooting.
Although, I'm familiar with using adapters, I can see someone not used to using manual lenses or adapters having trouble figuring out how to use this device. There are no marking indicators or manual to tell the user how the adapter works. I visited the website as well, just to be on the safe-side and there's nothing there either. It is definitely geared toward pros on the cheap.
I would suggest they add a manual for the novice, student, or beginning filmmaker/photographer. It wouldn't take much to explain how to use it.
