The Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon is a 15x high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 28-419mm in 35mm format. Designed as an "all-in-one" lens, it will meet almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The addition of PZD (Piezo Drive) ultrasonic autofocus motor helps make this lens lighter, shorter and slimmer than any previous lens in this category, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.
The VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism allows the use of shutter speeds that are much slower than otherwise possible, with no perceptible increase in image blur. It automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting a moving object. This feature is a must in a lens with this longer range of focal length. This lens will focus down to 19.3" (0.49 m) throughout the zoom range.
This lens is designed exclusively for DSLR cameras with smaller-size sensors. It is NOT compatible with 35mm film cameras and DSLR cameras with image sensors larger than 24 x 16mm.

I just got this lens yesterday. I have a Nikon D90 and needed an all-in-one lens aside from my Nikkor 18-55mm VR and Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens. I hate changing lenses, especially in the heat of the moment. I did some research which all-in-one zoom lens is a better bang for my buck. I was comparing Sigma's 18-200mm, 18-270mm, 18-250mm, Nikkor's 18-200mm VRII, 28-300mm VRII, Tamron's 18-250mm, 18-200mm DiII and finally the Tamron 18-200mm DiII with PZD. Tamron came on top as not only the price is reasonable and cheaper than the Nikkor brand but this lens also works as a macro lens. You have the flexibility of a wide angle lens and zoom capability. It comes with a lock on the 18mm mark. Since it is still new, I noticed that the zoom is really tight so I don't think this will have creeping problems. One thing I noiticed, which doesn't bother me at all, is when you have the VC on, you will hear the motor humming when you zoom and even slightly press the trigger button. I guess this is normal for the new PZD motor but I won't be surprised if some users will find this annoying or noisy.
Overall, I am impressed with the lens and I cannot wait to put it some more shots this weekend.

this lens is nice, has a wonderful range that cannot be found anywhere else.... colors are pretty good and seems crisp, the auto focus seems to search in low light which i suppose is normal to a point. the major downfall to this lens is that if you were to shoot pointing down and use the zoom the lens almost "falls" out to 270mm. and then to bring it back in pointing down is difficult. it isnt a big deal most of the time but it still bothers me.

Being new to the world to DSLR's- I wanted one easy lens for most photo opportunities. This lens is a great companion to my Canon with lock and go features. Often, time is of the essence to capture your shot. This lens allows me to quickly point, focus, and shoot. No lens swapping means the best shot every time.Easy enough for a newby and challenging for growth in photo skills. The lens cover is a bit awkward with the hood. Haven't determined yet the best way to manage the cover. One of the best gifts ever!!

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:
Wanted a walk-around, wide range telephoto. This lens had a number of positive attributes - wide range, quiet auto focus & light weight. Researched thoroughly; it received mostly good reviews but found the lens too soft throughout range. Exchanged for same model and found same problem. Distortion at wide range and CA at long range acceptable with post processing but would not compromise on sharpness (found it poorer than 18-55/55-250 kit lenses). Ordering the Canon 15-85 mm IS USM -- higher cost, narrower range but expect >>sharpness.

It is a great addition to my Canon for walk abouts.
I hate changing lenses and this solved my problem. No more missed shots.
Even has a lock so the lens does not slip out unintentionally.

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:
It's a nice well made walking around lens for most all outdoor occasions. Good focal length and produces decent images. I have all Canon L series glass at this time and I suspect that the version III of the 1.4 tele extender would better serve my need for more focal length. I've read good things and although I am giving up one F-stop, I am sure that the quality of photo is still superior to that produced by the Tamron.

I have been using multiple bodies and lenses and lugging a 35-40 pound backpack on my travels forever. I decided that I needed to lighten my load especially for travels that involve strenuous hiking. It was time for an all in one lens.
I have used this lens on a number of occasions already on my Canon 7D and have been impressed with the range and the color depiction. The autofocus is fast and quiet, though there is definitely a drop off in quality as you approach 270mm.
It does not match my Canon 24-70L but what lens would? It provides me with high quality images while lightening my load considerably.

Excellent lens. Have taken it on two trips already, and sufficed for all the shots that I wanted to take. Not needing to swap lenses was amazing! AF is fast and VC works great. I also used the lens together with a Tamron pro 2X teleconverter and VC worked very well. I love this lens!

I bought this lens in April (from another vendor before I found B&H) and have used it frequently since. I have noticed distortion on vertical lines at the wider angles but easily corrected in Photoshop.
I have used it to shoot portraits when I forgot my 50mm and was pleasantly surprised though I would not use it as my primary portrait lens, it stays on when I'm not shooting for clients.
My fiance and I do tons of weekend traveling and this is the lens I take on those trips with me. It's not too heavy or bulky even with the hood on and it saves me from "missing the shot" due to lens changes.
Don't be mislead by the Macro description. I'm not sure how they can really call it that. If you want macro shots, buy a macro lens.
I highly recommend it for the uses I have stated and I believe you will be completely satisfied.

About half of my photography is of landscape, nature, birds, and wild animals. The other half is of grandchildren and their sporting events and other activities. The versatility of the lens lets me do a bit of everything without having to change lens constantly. I like the weight and the size and the Vibration Compensation works very well.
It appears to be well made and up to the challenge of using it in a great variety of environments and weather conditions.
I haven't found anything that I don't like about it.

this lens is mostly used for Travel pic's, as well as Animal Portraits.
It is compact and very sharp with a quick precise focusing system. Also the built in stabilizer is functioning flawlessly.
The Tele lock would be nice to have at any focal length.

This is a great travel lens. No need to take another lens along. I have had mine for just over a year and suddenly the AutoFocus quit working. I can still use Manual Focus. I doubt that it would be worth repairing. I never dropped or bumped it - always very careful. Really ticks me off that this would happen.

In the past I have had to carry multiple lens to get the job done. This lens replaces 2 of my must utilized lens., 18-55mm and a 75 to 300mm. The problem was the time and problems with changing lens. I had to remove the lens place the covers on, put it away and then remove the covers from the replacement lens and install it. In addition I had to carry my bag to keep the lens in. That was cumberson. This lens will cover 90% of the scenes I want to shoot.

I'm a part time hobby/pro/artist who's favorites are travel, landscape and floral macro shots.
After having shot with the 18-200mm for years, I decided to get this new 18-270, with the added bonus of near silent PZD focus and VC, over the previous workhorse.
I've been using the lens over a month now, and the silence of the PZD focus is amazing, even hummingbirds don't care! The VC is excellent, when it activates*. (*I'm posting a service question with Tamron to find out more - I'm worried might have a slightly buggy unit as the same symptom exists on two different camera bodies.) You'll want the VC above 200mm.
Originally, I was concerned that the lens was made in China, but the workmanship seems solid, and as Tamron describes. (Of course, once I resolve my VC question too!)

It was a great purchase. This lens is great for travel as it is very light and has an excellent zoom range. The pictures come out quite sharp and well focused. The only thing that bothers me is that the zoom creeps. The remedy is to lock the zoom when it is in wide-angle position.
