The Avid KeyStudio comprises a keyboard controller, a USB interface and Pro Tools SE software that together form the center of a project studio recording system. The 49-note, velocity-sensitive M-Audio KeyStudio keyboard and Pro Tools SE software combination, once connected to the user's computer, provides all the necessary tools to begin building composition using the included 3GB loop library.
Additionally, one can choose from over 100 different instrument sounds, and then add effects that include reverb, delay, EQ, compression, chorus, flanger, and many others, polish the tracks, and then share them with anyone. The Pro Tools software contains a wide array of music creation templates for creating hip-hop, electronic, pop, funk, jazz, and rock and blues tracks.
The included M-Audio Micro USB interface is also compatible with Pro Tools M-Powered software in the event that the user wants to upgrade the software component of the system.

Comments about Avid KeyStudio - Personal Recording System:
I am an aspiring music producer currently in college. This keyboard works perfect for creating songs and loops. I prefer to use it with Garageband. The keys are a bit firmer than a keyboard without velocity sensors. Although it is a 49 key it is very lightweight and is not rugged. The pitch and modulator knobs work well. The blue octave and edit lights look very nice when working late at night with my lights dimmed. It is too small for the keyboard stand that I already owned. It could have also come with the music stand. Pro Tools SE would be great if I could record on it. I keep getting an error. It could possibly be from me using Mac OS X Lion. The Micro usb also works well when connecting speakers, headphones and a mic. Overall, this is a great entry level MIDI controller for beginner songwriters as well as people on a budget.
