I am quite happy with this scanner. It gives me a very good digital photo result. After I load the scanned slides and negatives into my computer, the real work begins. I first adjust the levels, color, brightness, contrast, skin tone and finally the blemishes as needed. It is neccessary to do this because alot of pictures date back to the sixties and beyond. All this work is required because the photo slides and negatives were not stored under ideal conditions.

This imagelab scanner is a marvel for archiving 35mm negatives
and passable for slide viewing. First it's fast, very fast about 6 seconds per image.
Next it's simple, turn it on, select negative or slide, press scan button - done, slide in next negative press button. It's small and light, small enough to fit in the large pocket of a winter coat. It will run on a couple of batteries ( I think AA).
It has acceptable dynamic range and resolution ( 12 MB ) for archiving and Internet use when scanning negatives. It does not do very well with slides.
The actual film holders take a little getting used to. It has a slot for an SD card which is useful because internal memory is good for only nine or ten scans.
You will not get high enough quality scans for display or printing and you can get decent slide scans if you scan them as negatives the convert them to positives in
    Photoshop.
In conclusion: very fast, very easy, cheap. For archiving simplicity imagelab has the goods. For high quality, use your favorite photo lab. Since I am writingfrom my iphone I almost forgot: it has an instant view LCD screen, very cool.

I am quite pleased with this product, the old slides were converted into good color photos that I can store on my computer. It is true the older ones needed to be photoshoped abit. Some of them had to be touched up color and skin tone but the most work that had to be done was blemishes and scratches but that is certainly not the fault of the scanner. The best thing I liked about the unit is its nondependence on the computer. If you get a new computer with anew OS or if they increase the bit rate, I will never have a problem again.

Comments about ImageLab FS9T 9 MegaPixel Slide and Negative Scanner:

Was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this scanner as am in the process of transferring all of my old slides and my Dad's for a project. I liked that I did not need to use my Mac but could just transfer the images directly to a SD card. No software to load and straight forward to use. Was very disappointed however with the results as I had high hopes for the FS9T. It's fine with negatives and any slide that does not have any contrast in it, but throw a little contrast in the picture and the image becomes very washed out Looks like something I shot at the beach on a sunny day. I spent several hours in Photoshop on several of the scans I'd done but just couldn't get them to look close to presentable. Finally gave up and bought Epsons V500 to begin the project.

This is a really good deal. It works fast and it won't take long to get all my slides and negatives done.
Too bad some of the images come out "hot" or over-exposed (no detail in the light areas). I used a neutral gel and that worked pretty well but they should include a slide to soften the hot spots.

I love that it can be used without being connected to a PC -- Save to memory card.
I also have some 35mm film negatives that I can scan into digital format. With this device, I may go back to using my old 35mm camera.

The slide and film trays provide are hard to open.

Nice replacement for obsolete Kodak RFS-3570. Does well with both slide and negative scans. Memory card storage is nice feature. Surprising speed. Images may require some final color/exposure tweaking. Fits my need perfectly for the few 35mm film images that I have left.

I have Imagelab's FS-5C05 and have scanned well over 2000 very old frames, mostly B&W, and it does a very good job. I bought the FS9T thinking it would be even better, plus I had a job with many full color slides, and it did a terrible job. Not one usable scan. Thought something was wrong with it, sent Imagelab some samples and they said on old slides, that's the best I can expect! I returned it for a refund and used the old FS-5C05.
