It can be tempting to over-buy capacity in supports but this one really is just right for my needs. I bought this to stabilize my Nikon D90 and tele-zoom (usually Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 Di VC as well as a Sunpak pistol-grip ballhead) at figure skating and hockey events. The combination does a great job supporting the combination while remaining light weight enough for my needs. I'm 6'2" and (especially with the ballhead) it is more than tall enough to be comfortable. Also, while I was initially concerned that I would prefer a 3-section monopod, this one really collapses nicely and is much easier to pack. Very pleased at the price.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 4-Section Monopod:
It was a great experience to purchase this in the actual store vice online like I've always done. The staff was super helpful and recommended this monopod over the larger model I was looking at. Turns out that this one is perfect for event photography and general use. Im 6'1" and with the addition of a ball head, it is plenty tall enough. I've also used it as a boom for a recent wedding and it has proven itself strong, lightweight, and very well constructed. I highly recommend this to any photographer.

I use this monopod to shoot sports with my 7D and my Canon 100-400 telephoto. The monopod is very stable and capable to hold 10 pounds of weight with no problem. The pictures at full zoom come sharp, sharp, sharp ¡¡¡
This is a product designed in Italy, so it's sleek and alluring. It's also very light and compact so I carry it almost everywhere.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 4-Section Monopod:
I purchased this monopod a couple months ago & have been happy with it. I selected it based upon the light weight and compact size. It has been sturdy for my needs. The only negatives are the wrist strap has fallen off (and gotten lost) without my ever adjusting it, and the "key" for tightening the legs has come off the pole twice from being bumped. It is due to get lost as well.

Really light, quickly sets up. Has the ability to mount a head or put a camera on directly. Great in situations where you can't or don't want to bring a tripod - like a hike in the woods or a crowded street.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 4-Section Monopod:
This 294A4 is all many of us will need. No wobble here... and made for travel.
My height is 5'10 and this 294A4 is well fitted for me. A taller person may want the 681B. I have both and frankly don't see an advantage to the 681 beyond an individual's height. The 294A4's diameter is about half that of the 681 without compromise to stability.
One minor flaw that isn't enough to lose a star over, but avoidable. As the leg sections narrow going down the t-screws holding the leg locks should be shorter... they're not, resulting in screws that stick out enough to eventually scratch something.
