The Sony DCR-SX85 SD Flash Memory Camcorder is an entry-level standard def cam with 16GB of internal flash memory, in addition to all the same bells and whistles as its little siblings from 2011. A 16GB internal memory means you have 12 hours of recording time in LP mode. In addition to this internal storage the camera also features memory card slots for Sony's proprietary Memory Stick media and for SD/SDHC memory cards.
At the heart of the SX85 there's a 1/8" CCD image sensor along with an imaging processor to keep things running smoothly. Helping these two core pieces do the work of video recording would be the Carl Zeiss lens, a 3.0" touch screen LCD, image stabilization, and 70x Extended zoom. Of course shooting controls, like Intelligent Auto, help out as well. These options take the guesswork out of recording by choosing the correct settings for a particular scene, by honing in all the faces in a shot, illuminating the area, and more.
When you're done shooting the included Picture Motion Browser software helps you to edit and organize your footage. PMB also gives you hand uploading your footage to social media sites for sharing with the world. And if you're more inclined to burn your memories to DVD, the software can even help you out with that.

I wanted an all around movie camera for family entertainment to replace my Canon ZR850 DV. Despite the fact that that this camera has a great zoom lens and a nice LCD touch screen, I wonder why Sony has cut corners on image quality. The movies are very grainy (noisy) the colors are far from vivid or natural if not to say monotonous. I found that my old Canon PowerShot A720 IS Digital Camera was producing superior quality movies and stills. I would not recommend this camera.

- We use this to record events on a daily basis. Quality is not the main focus but it does matter. OUr clients want a DVD burned within 3 days of shooting and this plus teh DVD burner form sony make it plain and silple.
- Simple to use, easy touch screen, small and easy to carry anywhere. Easy to hide if needed.
- Unable to get time/date stamp on the video without going through another device. Low Light is not an option.

I liked everything about the compact camcorder until I used it on my trip. I played around with it at home but figured the best results would show on my trip to Aruba. Too grainy and I'm very disappointed with this camera. Sure, it looks great from the LCD screen but when you download it to your computer, it's awful! I'm sure that I'm doing everything correctly, just don't know why the videos are so grainy. My old camcorder looks better than this one. If I didn't have this for so long, I would have returned it for another model. I wanted to buy an HD camcorder but the salesperson assured me that this one was just as good. Hmmm...not so!

This camera is very easy to use, the instructions are simple and to the point. It has everything you need to get started. This camera is small and lightweight, may take some getting use to if you have been using a bigger camera. Video quality is great for home movies and events. You won't find a better camera for the price which was reduced when I added the item to my cart. I also received this item in less than 24 hours after I ordered it. I would definitely recommend this camera to a friend.

This video camera is what I wished I had purchased when I bought a camera five years ago. It is compact, light weight, easy to use, and files transfer to the computer in seconds, instead of hours. Video quality is crisp and sharp in well lit conditions. However, in dimly lit conditions, the autofocus is challenged and if the shots change quickly the focus can be lost.
